Pastor Jenny's Ponderings: A very special note of thanks from the new Mr. & Mrs. (Note: It was my intent to write something beautiful and profound about the journey of Lent and how its focus on sacrifice prepares us for the joyous celebration of Easter. That was my intent. But, when I sat down to put pen to paper or, rather, fingers to computer keys the only thing I could think to write was a thank you for the open house wedding reception McCabe hosted for Derrick and me 8 days after our January 16 th wedding. So, if you'd like to know some of my thoughts about Lent, I'd encourage you to come to our midweek, Holy Week, and weekend worship services from now until Easter. ) When my husband, Derrick, and I walked into the Fellowship Hall for our McCabe open house wedding reception the afternoon of Sunday, January 24, we were a bit overwhelmed: it was GORGEOUS! Rope lighting added a soft touch to the room's support pillars, the tables were beautifully adorned with flowers and photos, and, hung from the ceiling were paper lanterns in the colors of our wedding. Plus, there were CUPCAKES hundreds and hundreds of cupcakes in some very fun flavors...and the cupcakes were setting on one of the most incredible stands I've ever seen! So very many thank you s to the crew who made this reception possible and to all of you who attended to make that afternoon so meaningful for Derrick and me! Special thanks go to: Joy Hofstad, Susan Hansen, and Jane Morgan who did the lion's share of the planning; Jeff Hofstad, Randy Hansen, and Dan Gravseth for their hard work setting-up; Tami Balzer, Tracy Huska, and Doris Boepple, cupcake makers extraordinaire; McCabe UMW circles for the other sweets and snacks; Music sung by Derrick Mitchell and strings by Mark Person, Sue Neumann and Tim Davenport; Rev. Darrel Aleson for his photography during the event; and Leadership Team members & others who helped throughout the afternoon. The reception was truly a wonderful gift and we felt very, very loved. Thank you a million times... - Pastor Jenny & Derrick

Thank you for the love, compassion and care you show for me while I am home or away. The warmth the members of McCabe have shown me is truly felt. I am blessed to belong to such a gracious church. -Ben Holen In Our Thoughts & Prayers Muriel Schilling on the death of her brother, Warren Bettenhausen, Fargo, ND, January 26, Muriel s sister, Blanche Wetzel, Mandan, ND, died November 1, Dan & Kerrie Schlecht and family on the death of Dan s father, Alvin Schlecht, Jamestown, ND, February 15, March One Thing - Meals on Wheels The Bismarck-Mandan Meals on Wheels delivers well balanced hot meals to the homes of those who find it difficult or impossible to cook for themselves. 4 J.A.M. (Jesus and Me) What s Happening? March brings a lot of excitement to McCabe s Children s Ministry. We start the month with our annual Heifer International Mission Fair on March 6th (see below). Additionally, we will have several special activities to prepare for Easter including the making of Resurrection Eggs and Wordless Gospel books, and a really amazing experiment demonstrating how Jesus takes away sin. Our theme for March is Rescue 911: Salvation and our key verse is John 3:16. Great Adventures We will be finishing up our series How to Ruin Your Life: Learning to Avoid Foolish Mistakes. During this series, we ve identified several foolish mistakes that people sometimes make and how to avoid them (resisting authority, holding a grudge, comparing to others, etc.). These foolish mistakes will ruin your life and keep you from experiencing the life that God has planned for you. We ll have fun skits, DVD dramas, games, and more. This program is for kids ages 2nd -5th grade and meets the first and third Wednesdays from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Thank you Joe and Raylette Sitter, Steve and Kari Lundberg, Jeremy and Alisha Lacher, Don Fillenworth, Robert and Sheryl Reeves, Robb and Jody Eckert for your help with the God s Amazing Love worship stations for J.A.M. Heifer International Mission Fair - March 6, 2016 J.A.M. (Jesus and Me) classes have been buzzing with excitement as kids prepare for the upcoming Heifer International Mission Fair! The kids are making handmade crafts and goodies to sell for $1-$5 to raise money for their animal goals. We ll have magnets, sun catchers, decorative light switch plates, loom band jewelry, cake pops, cupcakes, bird feeders, and more. Heifer International supplies animals and training to people around the world to help them provide food and goods for their families. When the animal reproduces, they give some of the offspring to neighbors and the practice carries on. It s called Passing the Gift and is one of the things that makes Heifer so unique. Bring some extra money on March 6th and help our kids help others! Animal goals for each class are as follows: 9:00am 10:00am Pre-K-K Trio of Rabbits Pre-K-K Trio of Rabbits and Flock of Chicks 1st-2nd Gr Pig and Flock of Chicks 1st-2nd Gr Llama and Sheep 3rd-5th Gr Water Buffalo 3rd-5th Gr Trio of Rabbits (3) 6th-12th Gr Water Buffalo 4

5 BIG news! The United Methodist Women have a Unit meeting on March 10th. This is the same day as our Executive meeting which starts at 10:30 a.m. Mark your calendars! Then at 12:00 p.m. the Unit meeting starts with a lunch and fellowship, followed by our meeting. All are welcome! Mary-Ruth Circle will host the lunch. Sister Kathleen Atkinson from the Ministry on the Margins (Soup Kitchen) will be the quest speaker. Her charity is one of the foundations that McCabe supported with our Christmas eve donations. New books are now in the library. Each Circle should have their own Program Book for the new year, so come check them out. On February 18 all Circles met ant it was our yearly meeting for prayer & self denial. A quote from our Response magazine for February explains where these monies go. Our approach to mission is different from many Christian mission organizations in that the UMW endeavors to empower women and youth to care for themselves and their families, and to provide leadership to their communities and nations that they solely need. What a wonderful goal. One of our officers, Selma Kerzman, is so fortunate to be traveling to Israel in March with a friend. I ask that you keep her in your prayers for a safe journey. We will all look forward to hearing about her trip when she gets back home. Circles will be meeting on Thursday, March 17, at their normal times. I leave you with one of my favorite quotes I would rather walk with God in the dark then go alone in the light. I hope to see you at the Unit meeting on March 10. God Bless, Gerry Ann Small P.S.: Our Focus meeting will be held on April 16 in Washburn. Further details later. 5 Holy Week Worship Schedule Palm Sunday, March 20 Choir Cantata during 8:00 & 10:00 a.m. worship services and worship with a special Palm Sunday weekend message during our Saturday 5:00 p.m. & Sunday 11:15 a.m. services. Guest I'd rather see a sermon than hear one any day; I'd rather one should walk with me than merely tell the way. The eye's a better pupil and more willing than the ear, Fine counsel is confusing, but example's always clear; And the best of all preachers are the men who live their creeds, For to see good put in action is what everybody needs. I soon can learn to do it if you'll let me see it done; I can watch your hands in action, but your tongue too fast may run. And the lecture you deliver may be very wise and true, But I'd rather get my lessons by observing what you do; For I might misunderstand you and the high advice you give, But there's no misunderstanding how you act and how you live.
