Believe Series, Chapter 15: Total Surrender This week we will be continuing the Believe series. We are now at the half way mark! So total surrender. What is that about really? Giving to God? Giving all we have to God? Or asking God to lead us in our lives daily? To surrender to God is to let go of that which holds us back from truly living as God intends for us. To surrender may be letting go of the control that we feel we need to in our lives and letting God guide us. This may be a challenge at times for sure but in the end we can be challenged by God to do just that. In the service we will look more closely at the concept of surrender and see how God leads us in daily living. Surrendering can be a powerful thing but also rewarding as we grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ. As we surrender, we let go of many earthy desires and take on a new identity of faith in Christ. This Sunday will also be Mother s day. There will be a time to honour and celebrate the mother s and mothering people in our lives. Scripture Readings this week: Daniel 3: 8-28 Matthew 16: Sermon: Give it Up! Bread Basket Sunday last week. Thank you to everyone who donated items!

9 News from the Pews Page 9 Grant s World This past week has been busy with many pastoral issues and reflections on what has happened this week in Canada. Last week we heard of the loss of long time member Mr. Tom Massena. Tom had a special place in my heart after knowing him for many years after listening to his stories of life. He was a community servant in so many ways that had an impact on countless people. Through his work as a fireman, ambulance attendant, crossing guard and volunteer in many other ways he knew the citizens of Georgetown. We grieve his loss and we pray for the support of his family and particularly his daughter Vickie and son Jim. Tom was a servant of God with a deep faith and now is at peace in heaven. And then this week we learned the sad news of the passing of Dianne Grundy. Dianne was the chair of the ministry and personnel committee at St. Andrew s. Many know she had been sick for some time but her death comes as a shock to all of us. She was loved by her family and cared for by her husband Alan in the final months of her earthly life. Dianne was a deep servant of Christ as she lived her faith with generous love and dedication to the church. She had a depth and richness in faith and this has carried her to the end of her earthly life and into new life in heaven. The church was central to her life and we are all grateful to God for that. Her memorial service will be held next Wednesday at 11 am. We pray for her family, her daughters Dawn and Sheri, loving husband Alan, and offer them support in their grief and loss. Also this week our hearts are broken open by the devastation of the wild fires in Fort McMurray, Alberta. To see the news footage is quite unbelievable. Today I saw a YouTube video of a dash cam capturing what the street looks like with the fire embers actually landing on the cars trying to free the city to a safe place. Some people have been asking what they can do to help. Here are a few suggestions. First, the Red cross. Always a reliable aid organization who can bring the help and hope to those who need it most. Here is a link to that. ea.client.id=1951&ea.campaign.id=50610&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=no-dm Second, through the United Church of Canada. Over the years, the UCC has supported humanitarian disaster relief work by collecting funds through the national office website. Churches may be able to collect them and submit through the UCC. Here is a link to donate through the UCC. Third, we can pray to God for help and blessings in this disaster. As we view the footage I think about all those angels who have come to the rescue of people in need. The EMS, police, fire and ambulance people, Red Cross workers, etc. It is through these people that help is possible and hope becomes real. God walks with us in our grief, losses or tragedies. Through faith in Christ, we are welcomed and blessed by God and in people serving one another; God is seen in so many real ways. This Saturday we will be holding our annual Garage Sale at the church. We can still use more donations and helpers with setting up on Friday and then again on Saturday. Please consider coming out to assist in this event. Thanks and blessings to you all. Grant
