Observance of Vocation Awareness Week began in 1976 when the U.S. bishops designated the 28th Sunday of the year for the celebration. It was later moved to Feast of the Baptism of the Lord in January. In 2014, after extensive consultation, the Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations moved the observance of National Vocation Awareness Week to November to engage Catholic schools and colleges more effectively in this effort. To that end we need to identify all of our veterans, living and deceased. All veterans and their families are welcomed as our honored guests after the 7:30 and 9:30 am Masses on Sunday, November 11. On that day we will unite our voices in prayer and song marking the end of The Great War also known as World War I. Help us to identify all those, living or deceased, who have served or are serving, to honor them, and invite them to our free breakfast for them and their families. We would also like to borrow a picture of them to make a special display in our school entrance. Their name, rank, and return information should be posted on the back of their picture. Photos may be dropped off at the rectory office. All veterans please call the rectory office at (708) to give your name, , years of service, rank, branch of military and a choice of seating time if you would like to join us for this special breakfast. 11 Hand-carved olive wood gifts from the Holy Land: proceeds benefit Catholic schools in the Holy Land. Did you know that 600 Christian families living in Bethlehem are completely dependent on carving olive wood figurines for their livelihood? The recent clashes in the Middle East have stopped the tourism industry in Bethlehem, causing most of those families serious harm in earning their living and forcing many of them to leave their homeland. Emptying the land of Christ from Christians can have tragic consequences on the Holy sites. Issam from Star of Bethlehem Group came to the United States with a mission to help those families by selling their beautiful religious hand crafts. The cost of goods goes to benefit the Christian carvers to keep them working in the spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, the profit from sales goes directly to the needy Catholic Schools and clinics in the Holy Land. Star of Bethlehem has been approved by many bishops, and diocese of Jerusalem. Please take a look at those beautiful artifacts November 10 and 11 here at St. George Parish. Book discussion date January 25, All are welcome invite a friend! A tale of war and forgiveness, and an intrepid dog McCall Smith s generous writing and dry humor, his gentleness and humanity, and his ability to evoke a place and a set of characters without caricature or condescension have endeared his books to readers, - The New York Times Alexander McCall Smith is one of those authors, which should come as no surprise to those who have happily read their way through his prolific output ranging from a ladies detective agency in Botswana to a supercilious philanthropist in Edinburgh and a forlorn little boy called Bertie. One of these vigils has taken place at Planned Parenthood in Flossmoor. After the latest reports received from vigil locations through the first 33 days, 310 babies and their mothers are known to be saved from abortion. You can be certain that many more mothers had a change of heart that was not made known to vigil participants. During this 40 day vigil at least one abortion worker quit, and a late-term abortion facility has closed permanently. November 4, 2018 Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time 13
14 ST. GEORGE PARISH INFORMATION Anointing of the Sick/Reconciliation can be arranged by contacting the Rectory to have a priest celebrate the sacraments with the person who is seriously ill or homebound. Baptisms will take place on the first and third Sunday of every month at 1 pm. The family must be registered. A baptismal preparation program is obligatory in ADVANCE; call the Rectory to register. Christian Initiation of Adults is a program for anyone inquiring and seeking information about entering the Catholic faith. Contact the Rectory. Holy Hour with Benediction takes place on the First Friday of the month at 7 pm in the church. Hospital Visits can be made by our priests or deacons, if notified by family members or friends. Although sacramental needs of patients are administered by the hospital chaplain or by a local priest, in an emergency, St. George clergy will respond to sacramental needs. Ministry of Care Mandated Agape Ministers of Care are available to visit, pray with, and bring Holy Communion to those who are sick and unable to attend Mass. Notify the Rectory when this service is needed. Perpetual Adoration takes place in the Holy Family Chapel located southwest of the church. Registration We welcome new members with open arms. We set the table to welcome you after the 9:30 am Mass on the third Sunday of the month in the Cahill Center or by appointment with one of the priests in the rectory. Stewardship involves your time, talent and treasure. Contact the Rectory for assistance in getting started in any of the Parish s ministries and organizations. Please remember St. George Parish when planning your estate or preparing your will. Wedding arrangements must be made four months in advance of the wedding date. You must be a registered parishioner for six months prior to making arrangements. Please schedule your church date before reserving your hall. Bulletin information provides updates on parish and Archdiocesan events. Please submit articles or recommendations to bulletin@stgeorge60477.org by Monday noon before publication date. Because of space limitations, articles will be limited to St. George activities and information, as well as Archdiocesan events and news. All articles are subject to editing and will be published at the discretion of the Pastor. No guarantees can be made as to size or placement of the articles. PARISH STAFF Pastor..Rev.
