2 From the desk of Father David I m sure many of you have heard your children ask, Why do we gotta go to Mass? or Why do we gotta go to confession? Try using a formula that Sister Margaret Mary used on us. She would often say, Don t look upon it as something you gotta do but rather as something you get to do! this is true with the Ten Commandments as well!! Contained in all the Ten Commandments is not just a bunch of Thou shall nots but also a very positive list of Thou shalls! For example, Thou shall not have false gods turns into Thou shall embrace, love, follow, worship, adore, enjoy, reverence, cling to, trust, etc the ONE TRUE GOD! Let s see if you can come up with the positive side for the rest of the Commandments! We served 525 people which is almost twice our average breakfast turnout. This resulted in $2,908 dollars income which was added to the $2,243 in the bucket donations for a total benefit of $5,151. A special thanks goes to the young people who assisted in the dining room. Your assistance was truly appreciated.

Menu includes scrambled eggs, sausage strata, sausage, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, coffee, juice and milk. Please join us for this great and delicious event. Holy Cross 5th graders will be holding a bake sale and a free will donation will be taken in support of the Cotter family. Lisa Cotter is a 5th grade teacher at Holy Cross School who tragically lost one of her twin daughters during childbirth on February 23. Please keep Mrs. Cotter and her family in your prayers!

If possible send them a little note of prayer and encouragement. Thanks! Our other Lenten Project this year will be collecting baby items for Mary s Choice. Suggestions: Disposable diapers Sizes 1-6, especially the larger Sizes 4-6; baby wipes, baby shampoo, wash & lotion; Similac Advance Powder (blue) infant formula; baby laundry detergent; new and used washable toys; car seats; bouncers, swings, pack & go playpens (play yards); new & used clothing from birth to six years; and any other baby items. Thank you for your continued generosity. PEACE & JUSTICE COMMITTEE For our Lenten Project this year, we will be collecting non-food items for the Personal Care Cupboard. Suggestions: Toilet-paper, Kleenex, shampoo, bath soap, dish soap, band-aids, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, diapers, razors, shaving cream, tampons, pads, combs, laundry detergent (powder only), and new wash cloths. 5 Next week, our parish will take up the Catholic Relief Services Collection. This Collection supports six Catholic agencies that touch more than 100 million lives around the world. The funds from this Collection provide food to the hungry, support to displaced refugees, and show Christ s love and respect to all people. Next week, please give generously to the Catholic Relief Services Collection and help Jesus in Disguise. Area Programs & Opportunities The next two abortion dates at Planned Parenthood are this Friday March 6th and two weeks later, March 20. Even though 40 days for Life at Sioux City is not scheduled, I would like to encourage people who do the 40 days for Life, to come out anytime on these two days. We need to show the people going in and coming out that we care about them, and that is why we are out front praying for them. Please come for an hour or two. Maybe you can make it a part of your Lenten resolution. With God's help, we can save babies! They depend on us. Are you looking for some quiet time to pray this Lent? Come spend time with Our Lord on Fridays or Saturdays in the Divine Mercy Chapel at Trinity Heights, Queen of Peace. Adoration will take place from 8:00 a.m. till 8:00 p.m. Adoration is essentially an embrace with Jesus in which I say to Him, I am yours, and I ask you, please stay with me always. --Pope Benedict XVI. Are you looking for a special devotional prayer for Lent? The Divine Mercy Novena, with prayer formula and intentions given to St. Faustina by our Lord Himself is available in pamphlet format at the Marian Center. The Diocese of Sioux City will host a Memorial Mass For Babies on Tuesday, March 10th at 7:00 PM at the Cathedral of the Epiphany. This Mass, celebrated by Bishop Nickless, commemorates all children who died before baptism due to miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, abortion and other before birth or infant fatalities. To have a child remembered during the Mass, please list their name online at A candle will be lit in his or her memory and his/her name read aloud during the Prayers of the Faithful. Catholic Daughters of America Court Ave Maria #269 will meet March 11th beginning with a 5:30 p.m. Mass at St. Joseph Church. A potluck dinner served by the M-Z members and meeting will follow Mass. St. Boniface Spring Dinner. March 15th from Adults $8, Children 12 and under $4.50. All Carry outs $8. Scholarship for 2015 Freshman. SCRIP Please remember by buying and using Scrip Cards you do not have to worry about your identity and credit information being stolen. It is also a fundraiser for the church. The last four years Scrip has reinvested their profits in the amount of $65,000 back into St. Michael School building by replacing the school roof, installing all new entrance doors, funding toward the new boiler, purchasing new entrance mats and a new gymnasium floor. All this was done with no cost to the church. We have two big projects to hopefully fund 100 percent by Scrip over the next few years: a new roof on the gymnasium and grounds work around the front and side of the school building. Estimated cost on the new gymnasium roof is $30,000 and grounds work around the building is estimated at $30,000 also. We will only be able to fund it 100 percent with your participation in Scrip.
