2 St. Michael Parish News Peter approached Jesus and asked him. Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive? As many as seven times? Jesus answered, I say to you, not seven times but seventy seven times. Matt 18:21 The Scripture readings again deal with handling human hurts and the power of forgiveness. Peter thinks he is very generous when he is prepared to forgive seven times. Peter tries to quantify forgiveness. Jesus, in turn, speaks of the quality of mercy and forgiveness and reminds us of the unlimited generosity of God s forgiveness. You might remember this quotation from Shakespeare s Merchant of Venice. The quality of mercy is not strained. It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven upon the place beneath. It is twice blest: It blesses him that gives and him that takes. The alternative to forgiveness is to cling to one s hurts, nurse one s anger and cherish one s resentment. Ultimately the only person punished by this alternative is ourselves. Jesus grace us, that the words of your prayer may become a reality. Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Fr. 3 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time St. Michael Church Cleaning Please be generous with your time to clean God's house. It only takes about an hour on Saturday mornings. RCIA Sponsors Needed This is a marvelous opportunity for you to grow in your own faith journey. Sponsoring can be one of the greatest gifts you can bestow on yourself. In the past two years we have had four wonderful women from the parish assisting in this ministry. If you have any questions feel free to call them about their personal experience as a sponsor. They were Karen Bonner, Patty Kime, Barb Kreber and Joan Rigg. Please consider volunteering. Give yourself this great gift! This year we have a young married couple who are going through the program, and we would love to have a couple from the parish sponsor them. It is a huge commitment, but pays heavenly dividends. Blaise will give the homily at all weekend Masses and will provide four evening presentations at 7:00pm from Sun.-Wed. In addition Fr. will celebrate daily Mass at 8:30am with an extended homily followed by coffee and rolls. 15th Annual Bishop s Dinner for Catholic Schools Featuring acclaimed basketball analyst and commentator Dick Vitale. Dinner is October 9th at the Sioux City Convention Center. Tickets are $125 per person with all proceeds funding the 17 elementary schools and 8 high schools within the Diocese of Sioux City.
