2 The Season of Lent Throughout Lent, the Gloria is not sung, except for major feast days (eg. Annunciation). The Gospel Acclamation 'Alleluia' is replaced by the Gospel Acclamation, 'Praise to You, O Christ Our Saviour' (AOV 28 refrain only) or another suitable Lenten setting, eg Pax Domini Mass. No songs or Mass settings with 'Alleluia' should be used. Because of the penitential nature of the season, it is appropriate to sing the 'Lord Have mercy' or Kyrie. Ps 51 'Have Mercy on Us, Lord', Ps 91 When I Am Troubled' and Ps 130 'Out of the Depths' are the common psalms for Lent and may be used at any liturgy during the season. To emphasise the austerity of the season, instrumental music may replace the hymn after Communion or the recessional hymn, or silence may take the place of the hymn after Communion. To emphasise the growing solemnity of the season as we approach Easter, the Our Father may be sung.
