Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church Seeing the great need for mercy and healing in the world, Pope Francis called for the Year of Mercy a special period, also known as a Holy Year or Jubilee Year, for the Catholic Church. It is a time for the Church across the world to take approximately a year to focus on forgiveness and healing in a special way. Pope Francis has asked us as individuals and as a Church to be a witness of mercy by reflecting on and practicing the spiritual and corporal works of mercy (Pope Francis Announcement of the Year of Mercy). Be you therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. LUKE 6:36

2 Diocese of Salford Office for Liturgy H O L Y R E D E E M E R P A R I S H N E W S All mankind shall see the salvation of God. Again we hear about the coming Day of Christ, and meet the character of John the Baptist. Just as once before he prepared the way for the coming of Christ, so today he does the same for us. Our hearts should be open to his voice, as he calls us to repentance, and asks us to make the way straight for the coming of our Lord. The imagery of this Sunday is particularly rich: the dominant image is of a vast population moving together - the return from exile in the first reading, the going and coming of the sowers in the psalm, the community of the Church preparing together in Paul's letter. We prepare for the coming of the Lord as His people - a community who cooperate to make the processional way of the Holy One - flattening the hills of opposition and ridicule, filling in the valleys of doubt and despair, so that all mankind shall see the salvation of God. A Taizé worship service is a time to come together in prayer, song and silence. The songs of Taizé are chants which are repeated to provide us with a meditative atmosphere. Taizé also involves the symbols of cross and light. It is a way to move to stillness to connect with our God and with each other, and to hear and feel the love of God within each of us. An Advent Examination Edward Hays, A Pilgrim s Almanac, p. 196 Come & Experience Taizé Prayer & Music Tuesday, Dec. 8th 7:00 p.m. At Holy Redeemer "Advent is the perfect time to clear and prepare the Way. Advent is a winter training camp for those who desire peace. By reflection and prayer, by reading and meditation, we can make our hearts a place where a blessing of peace would desire to abide and where the birth of the Prince of Peace might take place. Additional Times for Reconciliation at Holy Redeemer Parish Advent is a season to prepare for Christmas. In our tradition one of the ways we do this is through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. As we have done in the past we are offering additional opportunities for reconciliation before Christmas. Extra Confession Times at H.R. Tuesday Dec. 15 5:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. Wednesday Dec. 16 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. Thursday Dec. 17 5:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. Sacrament of Confirmation (Now for Students in Grade 7 or older) Parent Information Meeting will be held, Thursday, January 5, 2016 at 6:30 P.M. Please register your son or daughter by calling the parish office at Preparation Sessions will begin Saturday, January 9 th at 10:30 A.M. 2 Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church "Daily we can make an Advent examination. Are there any feelings of discrimination toward race, sex, or religion? Is there a lingering resentment, an unforgiven injury living in our hearts? Do we look down upon others of lesser social standing or educational achievement? Are we generous with the gifts that have been given to us, seeing ourselves as their stewards and not their owners? Are we reverent of others, their ideas and needs, and of creation? These and other questions become Advent lights by which we may search the deep, dark corners of our hearts. The Advent Virus Anonymous via WARNING WARNING: ADVENT VIRUS Be on the alert for symptoms of inner Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. The hearts of a great many have already been exposed to this virus and it is possible that people everywhere could come down with it in epidemic proportions. This could pose a serious threat to what has, up to now, been a fairly stable condition of conflict in the world. Some signs and symptoms of The Advent Virus: A tendency to think and act spontaneously rather than on fears based on past experiences. An unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment. A loss of interest in judging other people. A loss of interest in interpreting the actions of others. A loss of interest in conflict. A loss of the ability to worry. (This is a very serious symptom.) Frequent, overwhelming episodes of appreciation. Contented feelings of connectedness with others and nature. Frequent attacks of smiling. An increasing tendency to let things happen rather than make them happen. An increased susceptibility to the love extended by others as well as the uncontrollable urge to extend it. Please send this warning out to all your friends. This virus can and has affected many systems. Some systems have been completely cleaned out because of it. Please take your boxed set home. Verify your name and address on the top of the box and notify the parish office of any errors. *We need your current address when we prepare income tax receipts in the new year. PLEASE ensure you leave with the correct box. Parishioners using the Pre-Authorized Donation Program (PADP) do not receive envelopes, however, if you wish to make extra donations, simply write your name and phone # on any regular envelope or a blue multi-purpose envelope found at the back of the church and you will be receipted at income tax time. If you would like to receive donation envelopes or information on the Diocesan Pre-Authorized Donation Program please call the parish office. December 23 at 10 A.M. in the Church All we need are extra hands and a couple hours of your time Come they told me, pa rum pum Call Rosemary at We begin this second week of our Advent journey with this wonderful proclamation of the end of our exile. We really can take off our robe of misery and put on the splendor of the glory of God forever. Let us experience today what it will be like to be freed from the power of our sins to hold us captive. Freed from our longing, our desire: that we might be set free. The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy. Ps. 126 Taken from Praying Advent, on Creighton University's Online Ministries web site: Used with permission. PERFUME & SCENT ALERT!
