Celebration of Christian Funerals At the time of death, a family member should contact the Parish office to arrange the date and time for the funeral liturgy. Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) Adults requesting information about full initiation and communion with the Roman Catholic Church (the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation) may contact the Faith Formation office at (949) Sacrament of Matrimony The Sacrament presumes active sacramental participation on the part of one or both persons. Couples must begin preparation for their Sacrament at least six months prior to their proposed wedding date. Please visit our website for information and forms or call the Parish office. Eucharistic Adoration On the first and third Monday of the month for 24 hours beginning after 8:15 a.m. Mass. 4 STEWARDSHIP IS THE GUIDING LIGHT FOR NEW SCHOOL YEAR Each spring, Dr. Muzzy, Father Brendan and the leadership team develop a theme and accompanying scripture passage which serves as the lighthouse for the upcoming academic year. This year s theme is focused on stewardship and how these Christian actions unlock the gate and bring us closer to God and His kingdom. This theme will guide our curriculum and our faith formation efforts throughout the year, including a dedicated monthly stewardship program that involves all of our learners, from preschool through eighth grade, in a meaningful, hands-on way. Each month, one grade will take ownership of a project be it partnering with Casa Teresa on a Christmas gift drive, collecting food for Serra s Pantry, collecting money for Pennies from Heaven or FAM, or packing meal kits for Kids Around the World. Additionally, our eighth graders will volunteer for regular local stewardship opportunities throughout the year as they prepare for their SLE service presentations in May. 5 The Dog Days of Summer (including humidity and a star) Well, it certainly feels like the Dogs Days of Summer lately with temperatures approaching 90 and that awful humidity. How can it be so uncomfortable here in beautiful Dana Point? I came across an article online from the Catholic New York newspaper that talked about the dog days of summer and the star known as Sirius from which that expression comes. (It also explains why the Sirius XM logo has a dog and a star in it (Please copy those-sirius-dog-days-of-summer,1571 into your internet browser to read the article). Last week I wrote about God s creation, including our gratitude and stewardship of all that God has entrusted to our care. However, in my reluctance to thank God for the heat and humidity and in my readiness to complain about them, Fr. Achilles homily and presentation last weekend was a much-needed remedy to grow in gratitude and grow out of complaining. The view of classrooms filled with over 160 kindergarteners, pictures of 25 men, women, and children waiting to see a doctor, water pipes running above ground carrying desperately needed fresh water from a recently installed storage unit to the school and hospital quiets the complaining and increases my gratitude. Who could not be moved and a bit transformed by the smiles of the poor animated by hearts of joy and gratitude for what they have when frowns and downcast eyes would be so justified. Here in the earthly paradise known as Dana Point, I get it now. In my want-it-now and want-it-my-way mentality, I ve been reminded to slow down, smile and be grateful even for the Dog Days of Summer. Just as the Sirius star shines brightly in the sky, a smile and attitude of constant gratitude especially in the midst of difficulties shines much brighter. Rev. We have space for 50 volunteers to help build this house. You will need to be at St. Edward s parking lot at 4:00 a.m. to depart on the bus. We will depart from the house site in Mexico by 4:30 p.m. Each participant is asked to pay $40 towards the cost of the bus. No construction skills are required. HELP US HELP OTHERS Needed: Ministers to Take Communion to the Sick and Homebound We need registered parishioners who are willing to take Holy Communion to parishioners who are unable to attend Mass due to age or illness. In bringing Holy Communion to the sick or aged, you minister to the whole person - body, mind and soul. The time commitment is approximately one-two hours per week, either during the week or on the weekend. Extraordinary Ministers to the Sick/Homebound are required by the Diocese of Orange to be fingerprinted and complete safe environment training. Applications are available in the Parish office or online at (stedward.com) under Ministries/Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to the Sick & Homebound. World Apostolate of Fatima Rosary Tuesdays after 5:30 p.m. Mass Join us to honor our blessed Mother's requests for personal conversion, the daily Rosary for world peace, prayers and sacrifices for sinners who have no one to pray for them, and reparation to the Eucharistic Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
