You will need them, once the sun goes down it gets cold. We will provide the best view around, if the weather cooperates, grills (for your cooking convenience), cookies, coffee and great music! 5 On behalf of our Pastor, Fr. Brendan, and the entire St. Edward parish staff, we wish you a Happy 4 th of July filled with family, friends, and neighbors, as well as breath-taking fireworks and BBQ! Here at the parish, we annually hold a BBQ out on the bluff beginning at 6 pm and concluding after the Dana Point fireworks show. As always, we hope that we have many people attending. We just request that you park your vehicles on campus in our parking lot and not in the neighborhoods surrounding St. Edward. Additionally, we ask that the noise from our BBQ be no different than surrounding celebrations in the local area. Thank you for your cooperation and support. In this weekend s Gospel, we hear the story of the woman suffering from hemorrhages for 12 years. After visiting many doctors and her condition not improving, this woman made a devout pilgrimage to touch the cloak of Jesus in order to be cured of her continuous bleeding. The divine beauty of the passage is not in the instant cure of the woman but rather in Jesus inquiring (rhetorically) as to who had touched His cloak. The woman comes forth and Jesus says to her, Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be cured of your affliction (Mk 5:34). Jesus also spoke with a similar tact to the Samaritan woman at the well when inquiring as to her state of marriage. Over and over again, Jesus utilizes the gift of womanhood to exemplify the call to discipleship and unwavering faith. So why is this Gospel so important on the weekend before the 4 th of July? Just read Mk 5:36 when Jesus said: Do not be afraid; just have faith. We too are called to have faith just like the women that Jesus so beautifully spoke with throughout scripture so we too can be the face, hands, and heart of God to everyone that we meet each and every day of our lives while we walk forward to our ultimate goal of one day touching the very cloak of our Lord and Savior. 9 Parish Ministries Extraordinary Ministers (EMs) of Holy Communion Needed for Saturday 5:30 p.m. Mass If you are willing to serve as an Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EM) a couple of times a month at Sunday Masses, please complete the EM application and turn it into the parish office. You can get the application from our parish office or from our website under Parish/Ministries/ Extraordinary Ministers (EM) of Holy Communion. Please call Rocco Falabella at Altar Guild Ministry Needs Volunteer Altar Guild is the liturgical ministry whose volunteer members help prepare the church for the mass by performing duties such as washing the holy vessels used in the mass and tidying up areas of worship. Although the time commitment is minimal (a couple of hours once a month), our services have a significant impact on the appearance of the church and in the performance of the mass ritual. New volunteers are needed in this ministry. It is a wonderful way to serve and connect to others in our community. In bringing Holy Communion to the sick or aged, you minister to the whole person - body, mind and soul. The time commitment is approximately two hours per week. Extraordinary Ministers to the Sick/Homebound are required by the Diocese of Orange to be fingerprinted and complete safe environment training.
