6 Join us Thanksgiving morning for a bilingual Mass to thank our generous God for the many gifts and blessings He has bestowed on us. Thanksgiving Bilingual Mass and Food Drive November 23rd at 9 a.m. Our annual bi-lingual Thanksgiving Day Mass will be on Thursday, November 23 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Church. Be sure to bring a food item or beverage to be blessed for your family s Thanksgiving meal. The offertory collection for this Mass will be given to Outreach. Our practice is to ask parishioners to bring canned and non-perishable items (see list below) to donate at Thanksgiving Mass. The items collected will be given to Family Assistance Ministries (FAM), our partner that distributes food to the homeless and poor at St. Felipe Chapel on Fridays. Please do not donate items that are past their expiration dates. Thank you for your generosity. 7 "Who of you will help the poor amongst us?" You did!!! Nearly two years ago, this question was posed to our St. Edward the Confessor parishioners. At that time, the parish entered into a partnership with Family Assistance Ministries (FAM), in San Clemente as a pilot program. In doing so, FAM established a satellite operation at the San Felipe chapel to better serve the poor of our community. More than 20 parishioners answered the call to volunteer. They volunteered one or two Fridays a month from 10 AM to 1PM. The program has been an unquestionable success. It is helping the poor and homeless by having access to food, clothing, plus case management services such as shelter and job training. Those parishioners who have volunteered have seen lives changed. They came to know people who have been living on the streets for years receive help and turn their lives around. They have also witnessed families with young children, on the verge of being homeless, receive guidance to get back on their feet and become independent. The program s success means we are going forward to make this a permanent ministry of our parish. Therefore, we are seeking two couples to serve as leads one or two days a month on Fridays. We are also in need for additional volunteers to help distribute food and gather information to provide to caseworkers. If this is something you would like to be a part of or want more information, please call, Cindy Brauer or contact Deacon Al Scaduto at ascaduto@stedward.com Donate Men s Jeans, Jackets and Sleeping Bags for the Homeless November 18 & 19 after Masses The homeless are just that homeless. They wear the same clothes day and night and carry their possession with them. With cold weather upon us, they need washable sleeping bags, lightweight blankets, and small waterproof tarps. The homeless in our area - who are predominately men need jeans, sweatshirts, rain ponchos, work boots, tennis shoes, and socks (L). They also need warm outdoor jackets, preferably weather-proof, that are large enough to accommodate multiple layers of clothing underneath. (No dress jackets, coats, or dress shoes please!) In bringing Holy Communion to the sick or aged, you minister to the whole person - body, mind and soul. The time commitment is approximately 1-2 hours per week, either during the week or on the weekend. Extraordinary Ministers to the Sick/Homebound are required by the Diocese of Orange to be fingerprinted and complete safe environment training. We are located just outside the church entrance and are open Sunday mornings from 8:15am 12:30pm. The gift shop contains a variety of religious articles: bibles, books, crucifixes, medals, children s toys, scapulars and musical CDs. There are also several gift items for baptisms, communions and confirmations! The library, which has recently been reorganized and updated, contains over 300 books. There are categories on saints, scripture, apologetics, spiritual leaders, prayer, church history, and much more. We also have audio books and a wide variety of DVDs.
