In case of a medical emergency after office hours, call (949) Sacrament of Baptism Infant Baptisms are celebrated on the first and third Sundays of each month following catechesis for parents and godparents. Parents of infants should contact the Faith Formation office (949) to enroll. Celebration of Christian Funerals At the time of death, a family member should contact the Parish office to arrange the date and time for the funeral liturgy. Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) Adults requesting information about full initiation and communion with the Roman Catholic Church (the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation) may contact the Faith Formation office at (949) Sacrament of Matrimony The Sacrament presumes active sacramental participation on the part of one or both persons. Couples must begin preparation for their Sacrament at least six months prior to their proposed wedding date. Please call the Parish office for more information. Eucharistic Adoration On the first and third Monday of each month for 24 hours beginning after 8:15 a.m. Mass. We extend a warm welcome to all who attend our church. 3 Our Three Mothers On this Mother s Day, we stop to express our love and gratitude and pray for our mothers who have given us life and who continually nourish it with untiring love. I am speaking of our three Mothers: Our natural mothers, Mother Mary, and our Mother, the church. All three mothers are God-given gifts through which we receive the love of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We received our physical life through our natural mothers, are continually guided and protected by Mary, our heavenly Mother, and given divine life through our Mother, the Church. Each mother in her own way, gives life, nourishes it, heals us of wounds, worries about us, and loves us even when we re hard to love. To our three mothers we say: I love you. Thank you. 5 Congratulations to St. Edward the Confessor Parish School's Academic Decathlon team. Congratulations to St. Edward the Confessor Parish School's Academic Decathlon team which took first place overall at the state competition held in Sacramento on April 17. The ten schools competing won their respective diocesan competitions in early March. Academic decathlon consists of 10 events. Two of the events are collaborative, team efforts including the Logic Quiz and the Super Quiz. The other eight events are individual events. In addition to the first-place overall, the team came in 2nd in both the Logic Quiz and Super Quiz. The team also performed well in the individual events: Ryan Barta (3rd place Social Studies); Kate Cerniglia (5th place Fine Arts); Claire Crafts (1st place Religion); Rich Meyer (4th place English); Gavin Rissling (1st place Literature); Meagan Rowlett (1st place and a perfect score in Current Events); Nicky Rowlett (2nd place Math); Matthew Sloss (4th place Science). Team members who did not have individual events included Will Brady, Katie Macfee and Grant Reskey. Parents and school faculty coached the students. May 10, 2015 Page 5

6 A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO OUR PARISH MAIL ANGELS Within two months our mail angels stuffed, glued and sorted a total of 13,000 pieces of mail. They did it in record time! One hour and 15 minutes for 6500 pieces of mail. There are no words to describe the Commitment of these ladies and gentlemen. Maybe it s the Donuts! Thank you for your time and hard work. 9 Parish Ministries Extraordinary Ministers (EM) of Holy Communion Needed for Weekend Masses With our new church layout we require more ministers to distribute Eucharist at our weekend Masses. If you are willing to serve as an EM a couple of times a month at Sunday Masses, please complete the EM application. You will find it on our website under Ministries, then Extraordinary Minister (EM) of Holy Communion at Mass. Copies are also in our parish office or call Joni Fleming (949) and she will or mail you an application. H.E.L.P. H.E.L.P. is a support group for those with chronic illness and/or caregivers. Monday, May 4 to 5:30 p.m. (HELP, EMPATHY, LOVE, & PRAYER) Please join us on the 1st & 3rd Mondays of the month to pray together and discuss practical treatment and issues such as nutrition, exercise, rest, and stress relief.
