4 RE:LENT The rains have painted our hills a beautiful Irish green, and in the Spring, the flowers are sure to stand tall with new life and joy. The season of Lent is rain for the soul. As a drought-ridden state, we know that the best type of rain is not the downpour but the daily gradual rain. Each of the 40 days of Lent is an opportunity to allow the daily graces of God to gradually wash away our sins and restore us to the beauty of God s divine image and likeness. Our Lenten program, Re:Lent, focuses on prayer, fasting and service and provides a theme each week to help reorient our lives more directly on Jesus Christ. Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and the Fridays during Lent are days of abstinence. Pastors and parents are encouraged to see that children who are not bound by the obligation to fast and abstain are led to appreciate an authentic sense of penance. Lent began in the 4th century as a 40-day retreat for people converting to Catholicism. Soon, the whole Church embraced it. Yet, even today, people journeying through RCIA all over the world experience a profound sense of conversion, change, a new way of life during Lent. You will see them front and center, starting TODAY at 9:00 a.m. mass as the unbaptized sign the Book of the Elect and the baptized publicly profess their desire to be one with us. On Tuesday evening, they will celebrate the Rite of Election with Bishop Kevin Vann at Basilica San Juan. Please keep them close in your prayers during this special time. In addition to 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion, we will have peaceful prayer vigils outside of a Planned Parenthood facility. 9 Parish Ministries Attention Liturgical Ministers Please join us for a Morning Reflection and Ministry Training on Saturday, March 25 Liturgical Ministers are invited to a morning of reflection and training specific to each ministry on Saturday, March 25 Join us for morning Mass at 8:15 a.m. then we will meet in Knight Hall at 9 am for a light breakfast followed by a reflection by Father Dave and ministry-specific training that will finish by 11:30 a.m. If you are a liturgical minister please mark this morning on your calendar and plan to join us. 24 Hour Adoration Mondays, March 6 and 20 Beginning after the 8:15 a.m. Mass St. Edward Church Volunteers NEEDED To Help Decorate Our Church Liturgical Environment Ministry Volunteers are needed in this ministry to help for the liturgical seasons including Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter and Ordinary Time.
