Parishioners and guests had a great time sharing delicious meal in a friendly atmosphere. Literally finger-licking chicken you didn t want to use a fork to eat it. You had to get every piece of it. Mouthwatering roasted pork loins and baby back ribs, served with baked potatoes, corn on a cob, baked beans, and coleslaw with bread and butter. Desert table was heavily laden with huge variety of homemade baked goods donated by our talented

2 bakers of the parish family. Church National Essay Contest award certificates were distributed to the participants. This year we had 50 essays submitted for the Annual National Contest. 42 children and 8 adults essay entries. This is a proud year for our parish to have the most essay participants among all the parishes of the UOC of USA. Thank you to PM Olenka for being on top of it. All of the proceeds raised at the dinner will be sent to hurricane victims at our sister parishes in Florida. We were blessed to raise $ at the dinner. Moreover, Sr. UOL chapter would like to add to this amount $ If you would like to contribute to this fundraiser, you can do so next Sunday by marking your donation hurricane victims. Our gratitude goes to our chef for the day Dr. Harry Oryhon and his helpers Dr. Jeremy Oryhon, Richard Ganske and Elias Gordan. Thank you to the morning set up crew and the serving crew, the bakers of our parish for such a variety of homemade goods abd the cleaning team. Thank you to Noreen Neswick for selling the tickets and to all, who have come and invited their family and friends. All of you made it happen. Delicious meal, great fellowship for a good cause! 4 Sunday School This is a summary of our Sunday School classes for this year, as well as a very brief explanation of the goals and areas of concentration for each class. Periodic updates from specific classes will follow throughout the year. Preschool: Early Childhood books, stories and related activities focusing on God's love for us, coming to church and prayers will be the main focus for this group. Grades 1 and 2: This group of children will focus on learning about a Loving God and how this applies to their world, the Orthodox Church and the teachings from the Bible. They will also be learning important prayers, the Ten Commandments, Holy Sacraments and preparing for the sacrament of the First Holy Confession. Grades 3 and 4: As a follow-up to their First Confession, these students will focus on learning more about our Divine Liturgy, the physical parts of an Orthodox Church, the Sacraments and Beatitudes and other services of the Church and how these relate to parts of the Bible. Middle School/Junior High: Students at this level will begin with a review of their understanding of the important aspects of our Christian Faith in the liturgy, prayers, the Ten Commandments, the Creed and the relationship of these to portions of the Bible. They will continue to study Christ's teachings through the study of his parables and how they apply to students' daily lives. High School: This group will begin with an inquiry of what students know and understand about our Orthodox Faith and what they want to know in applying this in their daily lives. 5 350 Parish Council Parish Council Monthly meeting is TODAY after the Coffee Hour. Representatives of the parish organizations are encouraged to attend. Faith & Photography Contest Champions of the Faith There are four age groups, each provided with a different topic based on the theme Champions of the Faith. The contestant is able to photograph something that inspires them based on the topic requirements. More information in the flyer by the bulletins or at or Make sure to review the rules and regulations to make sure your photo makes the grade. Submit your photo by November 1, 2017 to with the needed entry form. The photos will be displayed online until December 15, At that time our winners and runners-up will be announced. The world is also able to vote! On-line voting will be accepted for a People s Choice Winner! Winning Prizes: 1st Place Winners will receive a waterproof sports action camera! 2nd Place Winners will receive an Amazon Gift Card! Blessing of the remodeling of the Church Temple Sunday November 12, 2017 Church Humor What Does Cause Arthritis?? A drunken man who smelled like a beer sat down on a subway seat next to a priest. The man's tie was stained; his face was smeared with red lipstick, and a half empty bottle of gin was sticking out of his torn coat pocket. He opened his newspaper and began to read. After a few minutes the man turned to the priest and asked "Say Father, what causes arthritis?" "The priest replies "My son, it's caused by loose living, being with cheap wicked women, too much alcohol and contempt for your fellow man". "Well I'll be darned" the drunk muttered, returning to his newspaper. The priest thinking about what he said nudged the drunk and apologized. "I'm sorry to come on so strong. How long have you had arthritis?" "I don't have it, Father. I was just reading here that the Pope does." 8
