To be a part of the parish Church, we should be living parish life! Being active doesn t only mean to come to Church services every Sunday or every other Sunday. There is much more that takes place in the life of the parish family. There is much more you can be involved in besides worship on Sundays. You are more than wanted to be a part of the community, you are vitally needed to be the part of the community to ensure its grows and bright future. Every member should be engaged in participation of some kind, when it comes to carrying out the mission of the church. There is a variety of ministries one can engage himself or herself. From singing in the choir, assisting at the altar to teaching in the Sunday School, helping the sisterhood or heading numerous committees and or projects in the parish. The parish priests and council members cannot do it all. What are your interests, needs, desires or challenges you would like to undertake?

2 Invest your God given talents for the sake of your parish family! It is your place, you have the ability and right to make it the way you want it. All it takes is a little bit of dedicated time and effort to be involved. Your ideas, your zealousness will be embraced with open arms. Yes, you have a lot of important responsibilities in your life. Yes, you are busy with your work, house, children other family responsibility. We all do. Being a responsible parishioner is one of the vital responsibilities in our spiritual life. It is our spiritual life not someone else s. Those are our souls and the souls of our children that are at stake. If we are not going to do it, who else would do it? Hoping that someone else will do it for us, will have a terrible outcome. Take care of your soul, take care of your spiritual house. This is not the parish of someone else; it is our parish, our spiritual home. Everyone wants to better his or her home, work on bettering your parish. Be involved, be outspoken, be a part of this community and not just a visitor on Sunday mornings. Fr. Vasyl To see a change we might need to change our mindset Move from revival to relevance As a church, it isn't about reviving or redeveloping a dying or struggling church. It's about being relevant in one's community -- visibly living out Christ's presence in our neighborhood. Moving from the mindset of revival to relevance is vital to determining the future of the church. Revival can put the congregation's focus inward to think about what to do to increase membership, increase tithes, and build the church back up to where it used to be. Relevance is about figuring out the current identity and gifts of the church now and matching that with the needs of the community. Relevance is not about survival, but about recognizing no matter the size of the congregation. Christ is calling you to use your gifts in a particular way for a particular reason. Sometimes, this does lead to a revival of the church in energy, in numbers, and in significance. Sometimes, it means recognizing that the ministry of the church exists beyond the actual existence of our congregation. Maybe it is time to bless others ministries or new church developments with our church buildings or financial assets. Maybe it is time for the legacy of our parish to live on through the ministry to the outside community that surrounds us. Being relevant causes us to not be selfish about what we want, but to also look at what Christ is calling us to do in ways we never could imagine possible. 2

Even the curtain in the royal doors, as well as the glass votives in the hanging vigil lamps in front of the icons on the iconostasis are changed throughout the year. Like the changes in colors associated with the seasons there are variations in colors within the Church. These changes reflect the mood that is associated with the season or major feast days. In the Orthodox Church, there are typically six (or seven) liturgical colors used: white, green, purple/black, red, blue, and gold. There are slight variations according to what the priest or parish might have available. Green for Pentecost(The color of plants & new life) Blue color for feasts of the Theotokos & Lenten Services (color of humanity & the heavens Red for Feasts of the Martyrs & the Nativity Fast (Color of martyrs blood, divinity & royalty) Black for Lent (Mourning) Purple - for Lent (Repentance) White for Pascha, Christmas & Transfiguration (Purity) Gold for all other times (Color of Virtue) ~Yours in Christ,Miss Debbie & Miss Karen 4

5 304 Parish Council We apologize for some dust as we remodel our Church Temple. The work has already started. Some of the pews on the left side of the building were removed to be refinished. Please make yourselves comfortable in the pews located in the middle section of the temple. The parish council has voted to enhance the beauty of our place of worship. The carpet in the Church is 17 years old. The pews are 37 years old. We will be removing the old carpeting and installing new carpeting in the Nave of the Church Temple. We will tile the sanctuary. We will be removing and refinishing the pews. The project will cost us $50, Our Sisterhood of St. Anne has committed to help tremendously with the project. However, more funds are needed. With this in mind we are asking our parish family to contribute to the best of their ability to help us defray the coast of the repairs. It is important to upkeep our place of worship and to pass it on to the next generations! 7 Winter Mission Trip to Ukrainian Orphanage Consistory Office of Christian Charity in cooperation with the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA winter missionary trip to Znamyanka Orphanage for the faithful of our Church will take place December, The cost of the Mission Trip, which includes the flight, in country travel, lodging and food, is $2,300. Veterans in need food drive October 2 November 20 Our parish family is going to participate in the Local Veteran s Food drive, which began in 2009 as a dream to help provide a Thanksgiving Meal to roughly 15 Veteran s who would not have otherwise had one. The project has grown along with the need.different businesses, clubs, schools, and churches help collect non-perishable food items that are assembled by volunteers and delivered approximately 7-8 food baskets per Veteran and their families over a two day Thanksgiving period. This year, the request has grown upwards towards a 1,000 local Veterans. 8
