2 Tuesday Wednesday Saturday Sunday Calendar of Events for the week of December 30 th : - A Blessed New Year to everyone! - 8:30 a.m., Moleben for sick parishioners - 9:00 a.m., Delivery of poinsettias. Volunteers are needed to arrange them - 5:30 p.m., Confession - 6:00 p.m., Vespers - Christmas Eve - 8:30 a.m., Greeting of His Grace Bishop Daniel, followed by the Hierarchal Divine Liturgy - 5:00 p.m., Annual UOL Christmas Eve Holy Supper (Sviata Vechera) - 7:00 p.m., Great Compline and Matins Throughout the year, our parish s Senior UOL chapter sponsors many activities for the welfare of our parish and youth. For over 25 years, the most commendable project is their sponsorship of the Sviata Vechera (Holy Christmas Eve Supper) on Christmas Eve, January 6 th. This year s dinner will be on a Sunday evening, at 5:00 p.m. When the first UOL Sviata Vechera was served, approximately 30 people participated. Over the years, the attendance has grown. Last year, over 125 people participated. The Senior U.O.L. once again invites everyone who is not able to prepare their own Christmas Eve Holy Supper to come to the church hall for Sviata Vechera. If you would like to attend, please make a reservation in advance by calling the clergy or the parish office from Monday through Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. With the increase in the number of guests, there is also a need for additional volunteers. If you can help, your assistance will be greatly appreciated. Every additional hand makes the burden a little lighter. You do not have to be a member of the UOL to volunteer. For more information, please speak to Mrs. Dareen Jogan, chairperson of the dinner. On Saturday, January 5 th, the Christmas poinsettias will be delivered to the church. Volunteers are needed to help carry them in and set them up in front of the Iconostas. If you are able to help, please be at the church at 9:00 a.m. Thank you!!! to those individuals who visited and caroled at local nursing homes last Sunday. We had 2 groups of carolers. We thank our Senior U.O.L. chapter for the gifts that were given to the residents. We also thank those who volunteered to serve lunch at St. Herman s Orthodox House of Hospitality on December 24 th. Children who need absence excuses for missing school on Christmas, January 7 th, are asked to get in contact with Fr. John. Please be sure to notify the clergy of all sick and hospitalized parishioners. This is the duty of the family. Also, please call the clergy if a shut-in would like a home visit. Once again we are asking for volunteers to read the various readings at the Christmas Eve service on Sunday, January 6 th at 7:00 p.m. We especially encourage our youth to participate in these readings but everyone is welcome. You may read in either English or Ukrainian and the readings will be done in the front pew. Please speak to Melanie Nakonachny to obtain readings and for more information. Make plans to invite someone to church for Christmas and, then, to share dinner with you and your family! 2

3 This Christmas, we will be honored to have His Grace Bishop Daniel lead us in the celebration of our Nativity Services on Sunday, January 6 th and Monday, January 7 th. The schedule is as follows: Sunday morning, January 6 th : 8:30 a.m.- Greeting of His Grace Bishop Daniel, followed by a Hierarchal Divine Liturgy 5:00 p.m.- Traditional Christmas Eve dinner, sponsored by our Senior U.O.L. chapter 7:00 p.m. - Great Compline & Matins Monday, January 7 th, Christmas Day: 9:00 a.m. - Hierarchal Divine Liturgy For the 25 th year, we will sponsor our live, 2-hour Christmas Radio program, from 9:00 11:00 a.m. on Radio Station WJMO 1300 AM. It will also be broadcast worldwide on the radio station s internal website: Praise 1300 AM, click on listen live on the right hand side. We are also working on the possibility of having a live video feed on the internet. More information will be available when all arrangements have been made. On Sunday, January 20 th, the Senior U.O.L. will hold its annual UOL Sunday dinner at the Embassy Suites Hotel, Rockside Road in Independence, immediately following the 8:30 a.m. Liturgy. In preparation for the upcoming UOL convention, we will tour the facilities and enjoy a delicious brunch. Everyone is invited to attend. The cost for the brunch is $20.00 per person. Please contact Pani Matka Mary Anne at (440) or nackos3201@gmail.com if you would like more information and to let her know if you plan to attend as the restaurant must be notified in advance of how many people to expect. Reservations must be made and paid for by Sunday, January 13 th. Following the death of our Beloved Metropolitan Constantine last May and in accordance with our Diocesan Constitution, a special Sobor was held in South Bound Brook, NJ last October to elect a successor. Unanimously elected to be our next Metropolitan was His Eminence Archbishop Antony. The official enthronement festivities are scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 26 th at St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Silver Spring, MD. The Divine Liturgy will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will be followed by a banquet. Tickets must be ordered by January 4 th. It would be beautiful if our parishioners could participate in this joyous event in the life of our Holy Church. For more information, please contact our parish clergy. The All Saints Camp Boosters, which are sold annually to help raise funds for camp maintenance, are now on sale. They cost $25.00 each and make great Christmas gifts. Please see Mrs. Mary Ann Sklaryk for more information about this project and to purchase your boosters. Please note that, because of the joy of the Nativity season, there is NO kneeling during services from Christmas, January 7 th, through Epiphany, January 19 th. 3

4 Christmas is about the Birth of Christ! As Christians, please send religious Christmas cards to family and friends. Greet everyone with the traditional Christmas greeting: Christ is Born! & Merry Christmas! Remember that Jesus is the Reason for the Season! During the Christmas season, the words for our beautiful Ukrainian carols (in both Ukrainian and English phonetics) can be found in the book holders in each pew. Please use them whenever we carol. Since the singing of religious carols is forbidden in public school, our children will not learn the words and melodies of the Christmas carols if we do not sing and teach them in church. We are truly blessed to have 2 beautiful choirs in our parish but, equally beautiful, is the sound of the entire parish singing together. Let us try it this Christmas season! As we say good-bye to 2012, we thank God for His many blessings and ask that He grant us health, peace and a determination to love and serve Him more in 2013! Happy & Blessed New Year to all!
