Mark 11: In these verses of St. Mark s Gospel, Christ reminds us of the power of prayer. Prayer delivered with strong faith, without a doubt in our heart. Doubt is the one that can destroy our faith, especially if it is left undealt with. We deal with doubt by strengthening our faith by learning more about God as well as increasing our prayer and fasting. Learning more about God will help us understand better His will. Positivity and persistence in our faith tribulations will lead us to a

2 victory over doubts. Moreover, Christ reminds us of the importance to pray with a clean heart. If we have anything against anyone we must put that aside. If we don t forgive our neighbor, God the Father will not forgive us. This is incorporated in the prayer of Our Father and forgive our trespasses as we forgive those, who trespass against us Unforgiving our neighbor and praying this prayer, we are condemning ourselves. Love is important Love is a must If we live to be Christians Followers of Christ But we fail Fail when we boast with our pride over somebody s faults, sins or simple mistakes We fail over and over again So why do you judge your brother or sister in Christ, And why do you think you are better than they are? We will all stand before God s judgment seat. Romans 14:10 Stay away from unnecessary judgments And even wrongful thoughts The Lord hates evil thoughts But is pleased with kind words. Proverbs 15:26 Whoever forgiver s sin makes a friend, but gossiping about sin breaks up friendship. Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends Proverbs 17:9 All of you should be in agreement, understanding each other, loving each other as family, being kind and humble. Do not do wrong to repay a wrong, and do not insult to repay an insult. For the lesson last week we discussed the various church greetings and when they are used throughout the liturgical calendar year. We read a Miss Church Manners letter (a.k.a Miss Etta Kit) and played a matching game. Blessings from Miss Debbie & Miss Karen Dear Miss Church Manners~ *GREETINGS* I m confused by what people say to me during the Kiss of Peace. I thought it was time to take a break and stretch my legs and say hi to my friends. Some people come up to me and say, Peace be with you or Christ is in our Midst. Most recently something was said about Christ being baptized. What s with all the greetings? Can t I just say Hey? From, Blowing you a kiss from the pew Dear Confused, You bring up a very good point. Many adults are confused as well by the greetings and when to use them. There is nothing wrong with saying hello to a friend. However, while in church we have a special way for greeting one another. In the early Church when the priest would exclaim, "Let us love one another." This was the time in which the clergy and faithful alike would greet one another with a "holy kiss." That is to say a polite exchange of kisses on the cheek while quietly saying the greeting Christ is in our Midst. With the response "He is and always will be or Glory to Jesus Christ Glory be forever! It is in keeping with Christ's words, "a new commandment I give you, that you love one another," (John 13:34), that we practice greeting one another at this point in the Liturgy. It is a perfect 4

5 opportunity to welcome the guest or stranger, strengthen the bond of friendship and demonstrate unity among the faithful. In doing this, it is NOT required to be overly demonstrative. Merely recognize and show that you are glad to see them in church worshipping with you. There are specific festal greetings & responses we use throughout the year that you will soon learn about in Sunday school. Remember CHRIST IS IN OUR MIDST! 7 422 Pan Orthodox Pre-Sanctified Liturgies The Orthodox churches of the Palos area will come together to celebrate 4 Presanctified Liturgies of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Wednesdays of Lent at 7:00pm. Each parish will take turns to welcome local Orthodox clergy and laity and provided Lenten potluck dinners after the Liturgy. Brief Lenten reflection will be offered by one of our priests.
