May God bless them and keep them safe. We thank our youth minister, Mrs. Mary Ann Sklaryk, for working with the youth and our Sunday School teachers, Mrs. Debbie Greaves and Mrs. Donna Kominko. May God bless them for their love and dedication to our youth and our Holy Church. May God s blessings be upon Lilliya Marie Lloyd, daughter of Johny & Maria, who will receive the Sacraments of Baptism and Chrismation this afternoon. We also greet the grandparents and all members of the Nazarenko and Konstantinov families. Mnohaya Lita! Birthday greetings go out to our cantor, Victor Bohuslawsky, who is celebrating his birthday today, as well as to Volodymyr Logvynyuk, John Hwodeky, Beata Fedoriouk, Artem Fedoriouk and Constantin Ivakhiv. Mnohaya Lita! This morning s bulletin is the final one until after Labor Day. I wish to thank Pani Matka Mary Anne, who has been typing the bulletin for 31 years (today s bulletin is #1263) and Fr. Michael for the excellent Ukrainian translation that is printed every week, as well as parish secretary, Mrs. Lydia Schkurko, for duplicating and mailing the bulletin. Thanks also go out to everyone who has made donations throughout the year to help cover the cost of this weekly publication. May God bless you for your love and dedication to our parish. ~ Fr. 3 Thank you to Serhij Nahornyj for his donation the American and Ukrainian flags that fly in front of our church. Thank you to everyone who donated food and helped in preparing and serving the food for this morning s picnic in our parish center. Applications for the Brotherhood Scholarship are available in both the offices in church and school building. High School graduates who are parishioners in good standing may apply. The deadline for submitting applications is June 30 th. EVERYBODY LOVES A PARTY especially for weddings, graduations and birthdays. With this in mind, please mark Sunday, July 15 th on your calendar. That is when we will celebrate our St. Vladimir Feast Day and the 94 th anniversary of the founding of our parish. On that Sunday there will be one Divine Liturgy, followed by a festive dinner. As is our tradition, there is no charge for the dinner. However, just as we don t attend special occasions without bringing a gift, we are encouraging everyone to bring a monetary donation to our parish during these difficult financial times. Also consider inviting a family member and friend to join you for the Liturgy and the dinner. At 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 9 th, the Brotherhood will be planting flowers around the church. Please sign up to help by speaking to Mr. Serhij Nahornyj. This task can be a family affair. Many hands will make it easier. The flowers also show our neighbors that we take care of God s Holy Temple. Special thanks go out to the Brotherhood for their generous donation of the flowers. Vacation Church School will be held from Monday, June 11 th to Friday, June 15 th. Parents be sure to enroll your children for this week of Faith, fellowship and fun. Applications are available from Mrs. Mary Ann Sklaryk, youth minister. Adult volunteers are always needed to assist. If you can help in any way, please speak to Mrs. Sklaryk. Sincere thanks to Father John, Father Michael and the many good friends for their kindness to me during my recent surgery and rehabilitation. Prayers, welcome visits, beautiful flowers and greeting cards helped to brighten long days and were much appreciated. ~ Irene Pavlyshyn Our All Saints Camp will hold its annual meeting on Saturday, June 9 th at the camp in Emlenton, PA. 4 The Brotherhood is now accepting nominations for their Parishioner of the Year Award. If there is anyone whose name you would like to submit, you can get a copy of the application form in the church vestibule or school building. Deadline for applications is next Sunday, June 10 th. For more information, please speak to Serhij Nahornyj, Brotherhood president. Mark Your Calendar to remind you about our parish Festival - July 21 st! In preparation for the Parish Festival this summer, we are welcoming donations of Ukrainian art objects to be sold this July to benefit the upkeep of our parish. Ceramics, various embroidery, Gerdan jewelry and wood carvings may be brought in to our parish office Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Please mark your items For the Festival. Also keep in mind that we will need everyone s help to prepare, set-up, serve and clean, so please plan to volunteer your time and energy. Your delicious pastries will be needed for the dessert table. For more information and to make donations, please speak to Mrs. Mary Ann Sklaryk and Mrs. Pauline Osad. The Ukrainian Cultural Arts Association invites all our parishioners to attend their Gala Spring Concert today, Sunday, June 3 rd at 3:30 p.m. at the Breen Center for the Performing Arts, 2008 West 30 th Street & Lorain Avenue in Cleveland. Performing will be Kashtan, Zorya and Harmonia. Tickets are only $10.00 per person and may be purchased at the door or by calling (216) Invite a friend to this wonderful annual event in our community. For application forms, contact the parish office or clergy. To Our Parish Family We need your help. Please help make our annual Festival a big success. We need donations from you for our Raffle Gift cards, baskets filled with goodies, etc. You can combine donations with other friends. We need your help. The Raffle is 100 percent% profit. Solicit donations at work or from any business that you patronize. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Donations are getting harder and harder to get because many churches in our area are asking for donations. So we need your help. Just mark your donations for Raffle or put Pauline Osad or Mary Ann Sklaryk on it and we will do the rest. Thank you!!! The 5 th Annual Golf Classic to support St. Herman FOCUS Cleveland will be held on Monday, June 18 th at Tanglewood Club in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. 5 If you have every visited our Nation s Capital, you couldn t miss the many monuments that are located throughout the city. One such memorial is the Vietnam Memorial Wall which names all the heroes of our nation who were killed in the Vietnam War. A small scale of this wall travels throughout the United States. This monument will be on display at the Tri-C Western Campus in Parma from June 28 th through July 1 st. You may visit this memorial 24 hours a day, during which volunteers will continually read the names, which are engraved on that wall, of the over 58,000 brave men and women who died during that war. Local clergy will also participate by assisting individuals in need of comfort. Fr. John and Fr. Michael will be among them. Please make some time to visit the memorial and to honor and pray for our nation s fallen heroes. Attend Church every Sunday as a Family. There is no Vacation from God. 7 Are your 2018 parish dues paid? Please check in the parish office if you have any questions. Our parish Ukrainian Festival will be held on Saturday, July 21 st. Plan now to help with the preparations as well as during the day of the festival! Important Reminder Couples contemplating marriage are asked to call the rectory and speak to the parish clergy before setting a date and making arrangements with a hall. There are periods of the year when marriages are not permitted by our Church. To avoid any disappointment, please call the rectory before finalizing the date. Also, anyone contemplating marriage outside the Orthodox Church should contact the clergy to have their marriage blessed in the Orthodox Church. To be in communion with the Orthodox Faith, all marriages must be blessed by the Church. Also, couples are reminded that it is against the teachings of the Orthodox Church to live as husband and wife without a church marriage. Co-habitation common law relationships are a sin and such couples are not permitted to receive Holy Communion until they have a Church marriage. If you need any assistance, please contact Fr. John. With summer here, please remember that our church is fully air-conditioned and that wearing shorts, T-shirts, flip-flops, etc. is not appropriate apparel in which to attend Divine Liturgy. The clothing that we wear when working around the yard or attending sporting events is not what we should wear when we enter the House of the King of Kings. The Lord may not be looking at what we are wearing. However, we ourselves should be aware that when we go to Church we are entering a Holy Place. Also, parents please do not allow your children to run around in the church aisles during services. It is a joy to have children at the service but it is not appropriate for them to be running around and distracting the worshippers during the Liturgy. Keep in mind that, when your children become restless, there is a nursery in the church basement with speakers that allow you to hear the Liturgy. Remember that there is No Vacation from God! Attend Liturgy every Sunday as a family. When out of the area, look for a church to attend. Also, continue to use your Sunday offering envelopes when on vacation. Our expenses take no vacation. In fact, they increase in the summer because of the use of air conditioning in the church during services. Are you a member of our St. Vladimir Parish Family? We strongly encourage the many individuals especially the new arrivals from Ukraine to seriously consider becoming members of our St. Vladimir parish family. For more information and to join, please contact Fr. John, pastor. Ukrainians have the tradition of arranging for a luncheon or dinner following various services, such as Baptisms and 40 th day and yearly Memorial Services for loved ones. In most cases, the hosts inform family members and friends of these plans and invite them, in advance, to attend the service and luncheon. The clergy are also invited. However, the invitation to the clergy is often extended at the conclusion of the services. They frequently have other commitments and the family is disappointed because the clergy do not attend. Please remember that if you want the clergy to participate in the luncheons, you should extend the invitation in advance so that they can plan their schedules accordingly. Please remember our St. Vladimir parish in your Last Will & Testament. Let your love for our parish continue into eternity! 7
