6 The STATIONS of the CROSS in Italian The Last Stations of the Cross in Italian will take place on Monday, April 8th at 7:30pm. Novena of Thirteen Tuesdays in Honor of Saint Anthony of Padua SECOND COLLECTION The annual Novena in preparation for the June 13th feast of Saint Anthony has begun on Tuesday, March 26th immediately following the 12 noon Mass. The Novena will continue every Tuesday until the celebration of Saint Anthony s Feast Day - Thursday, June 13th. Novena will be recited on Feast Day also. Next weekend, April 13-14, there will be two collections. The first is for the parish. The Second Collection is My Easter Gift to My Church. 8 On Good Friday, April 19, 2019, Communion and Liberation will sponsor the Way of the Cross over the Brooklyn Bridge. Participants will congregate for the first station at St. James Cathedral, Brooklyn, at 10:00 am. After a station on the Brooklyn Bridge, the procession will follow the cross to a third station at City Hall Park in Manhattan, and a fourth station near Ground Zero. The final station will be at St. Peter s Church, on Barclay Street, concluding at 1:30 pm. At each station, there will be readings from the Passion, a meditation, a reflection and hymns. All are invited. For more information, please call Communion and Liberation at (212) or visit their website at In order to provide an atmosphere of prayer and refection centered on the suffering, death and resurrection of Christ, all parish meetings have been cancelled from Friday, April 19th thru Sunday, April 28th. All meetings will resume Monday, April 29th. There will be NO A.A. meeting on Good Friday, April 19th. Godparents are welcome and encouraged to attend. The class is held once a month usually on the third Monday night of the month at 7:30pm. The Baptismal Liturgy is usually celebrated on the second and fourth Sunday of the month at 3pm. No Baptism can take place until the church receives a copy of the child s Birth Certificate as required by the diocese. Amen PARISH BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP will meet on TUESDAY, MAY 7th at 7 PM in the Pastoral Center. This group usually meets on the First Tuesday of the month in the St. Matthew Room in our Pastoral Center. This group provides emotional assistance for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. If you are interested in participating in these meetings please contact Sister Theresa at (718) Sister also offers individual Bereavement Counseling Sessions where needed. 17 GOOD FRIDAY PROCESSION Once again, the Good Friday Procession sponsored by the Borghetto Society and hosted by the parishes of Saint Luke and Saint Mel will take place on Good Friday, April 19, The parishes of Saint Mel and Saint Luke are pleased to participate in this tradition, dear to the hearts of many. A request for a shorter route has been made by the Borghetto Society and presented to Msgr. Tosi and Fr. Sauer at a recent meeting. The new route will no longer end at Saint Luke Church but will return to Saint Mel. Hopefully, the new route will answer the concerns of many participating that the former route was too long and difficult for those walking. The new route, as prepared by the Borghetto Society is articulated in the bulletin below. We are grateful to all involved and look forward to a prayerful Procession. Ancora una volta, la processione del venerdì Santo promossa dalla società Borghetto e ospitata dalle parrocchie di San Luca e di San Mel si svolgerà il venerdì Santo, il 19 aprile Le parrocchie di San Mel e di San Luca sono lieti di partecipare a questa tradizione, cara ai cuori di molti. La società Borghetto ha fatto una richiesta di itinerario più breve e presentata a Monsignor Tosi e Padre Sauer in occasione di una recente riunione. Il nuovo itinerario non finirà più alla Chiesa di San Luca, ma tornerà a San Mel. Speriamo che il nuovo percorso risponda alle preoccupazioni di molti partecipanti che l'ex itinerario era troppo lungo e difficile per chi cammina. La nuova via, preparata dalla società Borghetto, è articolata nel Bollettino sottostante. Siamo grati a tutti coloro che sono coinvolti e aspettiamo una processione orante. 10:00 am - Display of The Body of Christ and Our Lady of Sorrows at St. Mel Church. Prayers by the faithful will start. 12:00 pm - Procession of the Body of Christ to the Calvary for the Crucifixion, all invited. 12:00 pm to 6:30 pm - Visit of the Cavalry by all the faithful. 6:30 pm Fr. Barozzi leads the prayers in St. Mel Church. Afterwards, the body of Christ will be removed from the cross and placed in the urn in order to proceed with the solemn procession. The procession will begin at St. Mel Church and will proceed down 154th Street to Willets Point Blvd. At 23rd Ave. the Statue of Mary will be directed to go left to meet the statue of Jesus at Willets Point Blvd. After the prayers, the procession will continue back to St. Mel Church. After the procession, the statues of Jesus and Mary will be carried inside St. Mel Church. Everyone is invited inside for prayers and pay their respects and leave quietly. 16
