In small ways. What am I talking about? I mean newborns and infants just getting started! Christ Child Society, an international and local organization right here in our Parish, reaches out to mothers and new born infants. We can help them this time by supplying onesies, Baby Wipes and Pampers from sizes 3 to 5. Pampers are better than cloth diapers, but no mother ever has enough. Neither do agencies, but parishes wanting to do the Lord s work by clothing these naked little angels, do. Come with your donations and place them in the playpen in each vestibule until the end of June. Father Soprano Flowers St. Raymond Mary and Joseph In Memory of Francis P. 3 Oil Spill Update TTI, a professional environmental agency for cleanup of contaminates, has concluded our oil spill problem. Soil evacuated, pillar supports for our foundation, stone refill, new soil outside, new concrete floor, replacing the oil tank after sealing the floor and walls pretty much covers our concerns. It may have taken three months but the coast is clear. When we replace a few things in the boiler room- (nativity statues, cleaning props) we'll be back in business. The gentlemen of TTI are to be commended. Each day they were here, John Dever, our Property Manager, and I, were treated respectfully and we were impressed with their work ethic and efficiency. Our new oil carrier is McAllister Fuel, who promises to be careful in deliveries and do it in a timely manner. Thank you for your patience and concerns for our parish property. Father Soprano This Sunday s readings for June 4th and 5th remind us that Jesus raised from the dead the widow s son in Nain. So, too, did Elijah in the Hebrew scriptures. In both those times, without family and offspring to care for them, the elderly had no one to support them. This time of tragedy that struck their families brings up an interesting experience for us today. Bereavement Help the family as a Church friend, to prepare the Liturgy to comfort them, and offer support. Our God is a living God and helps us discover eternal life. His mercy also enables us to comfort those in need; by ourselves we are helpless. Won t you take some prayer time to Contemplate: Can I help my friends prepare for their loved one s Mass? Offer support? Share in their tragic time? Call Sr. Diane at or Joe and Marie Mullen at with your answer. When you are greatly blessed with a lot of something, you need to share it and give back. Because really, you have it in trust from God to use. Judy Barrett Catholic Extension donor Ask It Basket Q& A What is an indulgence? How can I gain an indulgence? An indulgence is a remission (reduction) before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven (by Christ dying on the cross for us). Temporal punishment, unlike eternal punishment, remains only for the period of time it takes for the expiation of one s sins. You gain an indulgence when a certain prayer or work is performed. You must have at least a general intention of gaining the indulgence, be in the state of grace, and perform the work. To gain a plenary indulgence, which can only be gained once a day, one must also confess eight days before or after the work is performed, receive communion on the day of the work, pray an Our Father and a Hail Mary for the pope s intentions, and have no attachment to (intention to commit) any sin, even venial sin. 4 From the Office of Bishop Dennis J. Sullivan, D.D.
