The Holy Season of Advent begins immediately after Thanksgiving on November 28th and 29th. At Masses this weekend, Reverend John Anglin, OFM, invites you to our Parish Mission. This Franciscan priest will explain that whether it has been a long time since, or a first time experience, all can be certain they will be renewed in a lasting confidence of God s love. The beauty of this mission lies in a personal faith and renewed confidence you will experience. Through story, song, ritual, and prayer, this Mission will awaken the love, peace, and healing you long for so deeply. November 30th - Day one invites us to live in the Embrace of God s Love despite the violence and injustice we read about and experience. December 1st Day two demonstrates Forgiveness is the Path to Peace and reaffirms God s call to us to be peacemakers. This night the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be made available. December 2nd-Day three heals the human heart; be it from sickness, injustice or violence so rampant in our society. Here Jesus will bring us healing. There is also the opportunity for the Sacramental Anointing of the Sick. Reserve these dates and times: I urge you to come to daily Mass at 9 a.m. on Monday, November 30th, and Tuesday and Wednesday, December 1st and 2nd and evenings at 7 p.m. for this worthwhile opportunity. 2 PRAYER FOR OUR PARISH MISSION Heavenly Father, You have chosen the parish as the most common vehicle by which You encounter us in our daily lives The parish is the assembly in which Your Word is proclaimed, Your Eucharist is celebrated, Your people are united in community to grow in holiness and to be strengthened to work for the betterment of all. Help us to take advantage of the opportunities offered in this community. In particular, we pray for the success of the upcoming Parish Mission. We pray for Father John Anglin, for our parish team, and for ourselves that we may take part fully and receive the graces You are just waiting to give us. Strengthened by Your Spirit may we receive the blessings, grow together in fraternal love and eagerly share the responsibilities that are ours as members of the parish. 3 Advent Waiting in Joyful Hope The Advent Season Marking the beginning of the Church s liturgical year, the four (4)weeks of Advent lead us to the celebration of Christmas. Advent s familiar sights and sounds stir in us a readiness to receive our savior, while sharpening our sense of the world s need for redemption and of the great mystery of God s becoming human for us. Arrival of Christ Advent is a Latin word meaning the coming or arrival. The season of Advent is a time to prepare to celebrate the three (3)arrivals of Christ: His lowly birth in the past, His mysterious coming to the Christian community in the present, and His promised return as our judge at the end of time. Advent and Christmas Since Advent looks forward to Christ s birth and Incarnation, it is an appropriate way to begin the Church Year. However, Advent is not part of the Christmas season itself, but a preparation for it. Thus, Catholics do not sing Christmas hymns in the Mass until December 25th, the first day of the Christmas season. Advent: Yesterday and Today Advent was originally celebrated as a kind of Lent during the forty days before the feast of Christmas. Gradually, Advent developed its own distinctive character, retaining a slight penitential dimension but emphasizing our joy-filled hope in the coming of the Lord. Today, these two (2) aspects continue side by side. During the first part of Advent, the prophecies of Isaiah and John the Baptist remind us that we are waiting for God s coming and need to prepare. During the latter part of the season the focus shifts more directly on the events leading up to Jesus birth. These twin perspectives give richness to our observance of Advent, leading us to introspection and renewal, and to the exuberant joy and celebration of Christmas. All Saints Press, 2015 Thursday, December 3rd A HOLY HOUR TO PRAY FOR VOCATIONS TO THE PRIESTHOOD AND RELIGIOUS LIFE The Office of Vocations has scheduled Holy Hours for Vocations called First Thursdays throughout our Diocese. Every month, a different deanery will host a Holy Hour to pray for an increase in vocations. Our deanery s Holy Hour will be on Thursday, December 3rd at the Assumption Church (Notre Dame de la Mer Parish), Wildwood Crest, beginning at 7 p.m. Pray to the Master of the Harvest to send out laborers for His Harvest. Please come and pray with our priests and religious. Your presence and your prayers are most important to this cause as we all work together in the work of vocations.

4 Clarification This notice of correction comes from the Diocese of Camden. There was a miscommunication in the Catholic Star Herald and the Jubilee of Mercy bulletin insert regarding the dates opening of the Holy Door at St. Peter s Basilica on December 8th. That date remains the same as does December 13th: Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Camden. Church of the Assumption 7110 Seaview Ave. Wildwood Crest, NJ 6:30 p.m. Advance tickets: $20 at the door: $25 For tickets call the Parish Center ext. 210 The 2015 St. John Neumann Parish Christmas Bazaar was a huge success because you came and filled the hall and aisles and because of a multitude of volunteers without whom the bazaar could not exist. A wonderful variety of vendors and food made the weekend perfect. The Chinese Auction, our raffles, and s brought many smiling faces as they won their prizes. Plan to attend next year. Lots and lots of parishioners as well as friends and neighbors came to the bazaar. And Santa Showed up!!! Happy faces waiting for Santa
