One popular symbol for Advent is the wreath. It is placed in the narthex or gathering space as you enter the church OR near the ambo. The Narthex is the room after the first set of doors in our churches/the ambo is the pulpit. Each Sunday the candles of the wreath may be brought in procession following the cross, just ahead of the Book of the Gospels. Here we try to offer two (2) different procedures. At St. Raymond, the Church Decorating Committee greets us in the narthex with a large wreath and candles one (1) for each week of Advent. While at St. John of God a wreath occupies the space where our Nativity scene will come, as the fulfillment of the four (4) weeks of candle watching. Where is never as important as the fact: Does the light of Christ reflect in your face as we watch carefully and prepare for His coming? Diocese of Camden Special Collection December 8 th -9 th The Annual Collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious, which provides assistance for the care of elderly Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests will be taken up in all parishes on that weekend. There are more than 34,000 religious past the age of 70 living in the United States. In thanksgiving for all that senior religious have done, please support this special collection. 5 Parish of Saint John Neumann 680 Town Bank Road North Cape May, New Jersey In a letter of Decree issued by Bishop Galante on November 15, 2012, the boundaries of St. John Neumann, St. Maximilian Kolbe, and Our Lady of Angels parishes have been redefined to fit the changing demographic of our region (population size, density, growth) and to simplify the boundaries through the use of commonly traveled roads & civil boundaries with which the people of these parishes are familiar. (Decree) Please keep in mind as you read this information and assess where your home is within the new boundaries: if you find yourself living outside this area and want to attend St. John Neumann, you are most welcome! Remembering that within the particular church of a diocese there are distinct parishes erected by the authority of the bishop and exist solely for the good of souls. (Christus Dominus, 31) The Second Vatican Council has taught that concern for souls should be the basis for determining the erection and changes of this kind which the bishop is empowered to undertake on his own authority. (CD, 32) Taking into consideration the area contained in the three parishes, Msgr. Joyce of Marmora, Fr. John O Leary of Court House, and I have made a recommendation to Bishop that, based on local habits of attendance and distances to be traveled, this reconfiguration may benefit the souls of this area. In keeping with where the people of the overall area attend Mass and tend to have their spiritual needs met, Bishop Galante has defined the boundaries of the Parish of St. John Neumann as: Starting with the point where Dias Creek meets the Delaware Bay, 1. East along Dias Creek to Rt South on Rt. 47 to Rt South on Rt. 654 to the Middle Township line 4. East along Middle Township to the point it meets Grassy Sound Channel 5. South through Grassy Sound Channel & Grassy Sound following the Inland Waterway to Jarvis Sound 6. South then west through Jarvis Sound and Cape May Harbor to Cape May Canal 7. West through Cape May Canal to the Delaware Bay 8. North along the shoreline of the Delaware Bay to the point of origin at Dias Creek If you live within these new territorial boundaries, you will belong to St. John Neumann Parish.

6 Much of the area reassigned is still not developed (east of Rt. 47 & west of Rt. 9). All this area now belongs to Court House. The area of Del Haven and Green Creek west of Rt. 47 to the bay continues to belong to St. John Neumann, as close as it is to Villas and Miami Beach. According to our computer files, these changes appear to affect 93 families. Remember: if you live anywhere outside these boundaries and wish to remain with us, I welcome you to stay. If you live in the section north of Lower Township such as Nummytown, Rio Grande, Marilyn Manor, Wildwood Garden, Wildwood Junction, Whitesboro, or Burleigh and want to stay at St. John Neumann DO NOTHING. On the other hand, if you wish attend Our Lady of Angels in Court House, kindly notify Marie K. at our office first at ext She will give you the information needed, answer any questions and transfer your information from our parish to Our Lady of Angels with regards to the diocesan offices affected by your move. The response of those wishing to change parishes is important. Registering where you attend and participate in the life of the parish most is important to all parishes involved. You may verify your registration with Marie as well if you are unsure or have moved frequently (This is also the perfect time for those who have already moved or changed parishes to inform us that they either wish to register here or have left the parish.)
