ADMINISTRATION OF THE SACRAMENTS Baptisms: On any available Sunday during the 11:00 AM (Italian), 12:30 PM (English) & 7:00 PM (Portuguese) Masses. Please, contact the rectory at least one month prior to desired date. Confessions: Saturdays 5:00 to 5:45 PM, or during the week by appointment. Marriages: Please contact the rectory at least six months prior to desired wedding date. Sacrament of the Sick: If you are hospitalized or unable to come to Church for health reasons and would like to be visited by a priest for Confession, Communion, or Anointing of the Sick, please call the rectory. Religious Education Program (CCD): For children 1 st to 8 th grades who are not attending Catholic School. Classes are held on Sundays from September to May at 11:30 AM, with attendance to the 12:30 PM Family Mass. Confirmation: Teens will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on 8 th grade. They will attend classes at 11:30 AM from September to December; and from January to April classes will start at 11:00 AM in the church hall, with attendance to the 12:30 PM Family Mass. We invite all our families to participate. FAREWELL TO FR. ALBINO Fr. Albino was elected member of the Council of the Province of the Vocationist Fathers in Brazil. He will be returning to Brazil this Saturday, March 11. We invite all for a farewell gathering on Friday, March 10 at 7:30 PM. It s a potluck dinner please bring your favorite disk to share with all. ST. JOSEPH S TABLE We will celebrate a Mass in honor of St. Joseph on Saturday, March 18 at 6:00 PM. After the Mass we will hold the Poor Man s Dinner in the Joppolo Hall (church hall). Ticket is $25.00 per person (6-12 y/old $10), on sale at the entrance of the church or during the week at the rectory s office. On the following Sunday, March 26, we will have the St. Joseph s Table with sale of ZEPPOLE, homemade breads, cakes and Italian goods from 8:00 to 2:00 PM. This fundraiser event will benefit the Vocationist Missions around the world. LENTEN RETREAT IN ITALIAN Join the Italian community in this retreat in preparation for Easter. It will be held next Saturday, March 11 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, in the Joppolo Hall (church hall). LENTEN PARISH RETREAT It s open to all. You won t want to miss it! - Saturday, April 1 in Florham Park. THE BEST WAY TO PREPARE FOR EASTER. CONFIRMATION Our 8 th grade teenagers will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday, April 22 at 3:00 PM by Bishop David Arias. Our RCIA class will receive the Sacraments of Communion and Confirmation on Sunday, April 23 at the 9:30 AM Mass. PASSION PLAY Those interested in participating in this year s Passion Play, please contact Fr. Remember our dear friend BRENDA FUSCO who passed away February 24, She was a parishioner of St. Nicholas where she sang in the choir for almost 80 years. She was also a member of the Legion of Mary and the Rosary Society. Her sweetness, kindness and gentle demeanor will be remembered by all who knew her. She was a person who lived out her faith every day, and was a great example for others. We know that while she is no longer with us, the choir in Heaven has a new soprano ready to sing. STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE STRENGTH AGAINST TEMPTATION The first Sunday of the season of Lent always includes a Gospel account of the temptation of the Lord Jesus in the desert by the devil. This year, the story is set against the backdrop of the first reading from Genesis, which recounts the very first temptation by the devil. That story is set in a garden of delight. The Gospel story is set in the desert. As believers, we know that temptation comes our way in our own gardens of delight as well as the deserts of our lives. As Lent begins, our attention is drawn to that temptation within each of us to become like God-- we want control, power, and answers to all of life's difficult questions. As communities of faith, we are given this season of repentance so that we can join our hearts with others on the difficult journey of conversion. This is probably the biggest question people ask about church offerings. It is also the biggest excuse for not giving. We ask, How can I pay my mortgage, make my cars payments, pay my taxes, keep food on the table, and still have a little bit of spending money if I give 5% to God? Well, maybe God doesn t want you to have all of this stuff! The real question is how much do you trust God? Do you trust him enough to be obedient to his Word? 5 Living waters brings to mind sparkling waterfalls, waves washing upon the beach, a spring bubbling from underneath a rock, a gentle rain falling, or of Jesus who said, Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them. (John 7:38) Living so aptly describes water. A thirsty man attests to its living qualities, a drooping plant responds to its life giving properties, the skies are washed clear by its falling and a very weary soul finds rest in living water. Created by God, it cannot be destroyed nor more be produced. It is fixed. Though we cannot destroy it, we can abuse it, pollute it, misuse it. and take from it its living properties, making it a curse rather than a blessing. It is ours to use, to protect, to keep clean, and to appropriate wisely so that it will give life to all it touches. We cannot take for granted that we will always have all the water we need, where we need it. Let us each accept our personal responsibility to be good stewards of the water we have, lest our land cry out, I was thirsty and you gave me no water to drink. Our need for conscious stewardship of our living waters was never greater than at present. Time, Talent and Treasure Time. This is perhaps one of our most important resources. What do we do with the time that God gives us? Do we waste it? Do we use it to better the world in which we live? Do we spend it in such a way that most of our time is for our selfish ends? Do we have a healthy balance in our lives with regard to time? Time used to better our life and the life of those entrusted to us; time for personal relaxation and refreshment. How do you use your time? Talent. We are perhaps one of the best resources we have in order to reach our destiny. Do I respect my own abilities and gifts? Do I develop them and use them for the kingdom of God? Do I use the gifts God has given me so that others may be happier? Do I see myself as unique, as important and gifted? In what way have I used my talents for myself, for my family, for my church and community? Jesus chastised the person who hid his talents under a bushel basket, or buried them in the ground. Have we done better with our talents than that servant? Treasure. But God has only placed me in charge of this treasure, not only that I might benefit from it, but that others, who are not as fortunate as I may benefit as well! Am I generous and am I willing to share. Do I hoard or am I willing to let go? Remember, the only treasure we take with ourselves into eternity is the treasure we have given away. Many calls come to us, for our time, talent and treasure. Do we respond to these calls on the personal level, family level, church level, community level?
