BLAISE, FEB. 3 The special blessing of St. Blaise for the throats will be given after all masses this Sunday. The ITALIAN COMMUNITY is sponsoring the ANNUAL ST. VALENTINE S DINNER DANCE at The Brownstone in Paterson, NJ on Sunday, February 10 from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM. Tickets are $65.00 per person and are available after the 11:00 AM Italian mass or during the week at the rectory. MADRI GRASS FAMILY FUN GAMES & BINGO NIGHT - We invite all parishioners to participate on the Mardi Gras Party on Tuesday, February 12 from 7:00 to 11:00 PM in the church hall. Free admission. They will fight against you but not prevail over you, for I am with you (Jeremiah 1:19). Jesus also faced opposition, right from the start. In his home town of Nazareth the people couldn t accept the idea that someone from among their own could be God s messenger. [F]illed with fury, they expelled Jesus from town and would have hurled him over the edge of the hill. But Jesus passed through the midst of them and went away (Luke 4:28, 30). Although the true prophet has strength from God, Saint Paul says there s something even more important than suffering death for the sake of God s word. Tutti sono invitati a conoscere la Parola di Dio. REMEMBER THE PROMISE? Years ago, a young man knelt in front of a priest and prayed as he committed to God his tithe. His first week s pay was $50.00 and the tithe was $5.00. As he grew older he became more prosperous and his tithe was $20.00 a week, then $ He moved to another city and soon his tithe was $100 a week, then $200, then $500. One day the younger man sent his old friend a text, Please come see me. The priest arrived at the man s house. They had a good time talking over old times. Finally the man came to his point. You remember that promise I made years ago to tithe. How can I get released? Why would you want to get released, asked the priest? It s like this, replied the man, When I made the promise I only had to give $5.00, but now it is $500. I can t afford to give away money like that. The old pastor looked at his friend. I am afraid we cannot get released from the promise, but there is something we can do. We can kneel and ask God to shrink your income so you can afford to give $5.00 again. 5 2013 ARCHBISHOP S ANNUAL APPEAL My Dear Friends in Christ, This year s appeal theme is We Are One Body. As Christians, we are one with each other and with Christ. We are His creation and recognize His presence in each other. We are one body in Christ. Our theme is significant because it describes the purpose of the appeal - as members of one body, we have an obligation to help members who are in need. CHAPLAINS: Through the Archdiocesan Campus Ministry program, our chaplains at colleges and high schools provide counseling and bring Christ s message to students.
