1 Resisting Happiness! Life is a pilgrimage. A sacred journey! We are only here on earth for the blink of an eye. This is not our home. That s why the happiness that God wants and created us for is very different from the fleeting happiness and momentary pleasures of this world. -Matthew Kelly, Resisting Happiness A Pilgrim s Prayer by Thomas Merton My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end Nor do I really know myself, And the fact that I think I am following Your will, Does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please You, does in fact please You. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this, You will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore will I trust You always though I may seem lost And in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for You are ever with me, And you will never leave me to face my perils alone. My Dear Brothers and Sisters, the Season of Lent is soon upon us! Are you a pilgrim or a tourist? Lent is a wonderful time for spiritual reflection and renewal. Some questions for thought. Are you resisting happiness? Are you open to God s Grace to become the best version of yourself? Do the travails of daily life block you from the immense joy that sits at our doorstep each and every day? To help guide us on our pilgrimage this Lenten and Easter Season we have the book Resisting Happiness by Matthew Kelly available at the doors of the Church. One copy per family please! The Mass for those celebrating a 5 th or 25 th Anniversary will be at 3 PM on April 30 th, Registration is due April 14 th. The Mass for those celebrating a 50 th Anniversary will be at 3 PM on May 7 th, Registration is due April 21. Catholic Men s Conference On Saturday, March 4 from 8-4:30 at Seton Hall University (Cost: $25) The Archdiocese will host the annual conference. This year s theme is Be Not Afraid: Becoming Missionary Disciples! Speakers will be Cardinal Sean Patrick O Malley, Archbishop of Boston and Joe Lombardi, Jr., quarterback coach for the New Orleans Saints. Mass will be celebrated by His Eminence Joseph W. Cardinal Tobin. Register at Catholic Women s Commission On Saturday, March 11 from 8-3:30 at Seton Hall University (Cost: $25) The Archdiocese will host the annual conference. 4 Pantry Notice The Pantry is in need of 12 ounce jars of jelly and tuna fish. We appreciate it if you are able to donate it to our Parish Pantry. Thank you, Pantry Coordinator Support Group The needs of fathers who have suffered the loss of a child are unique. The Office of Family Life Ministries invites all bereaved fathers to a morning of prayer and discussion in the hope it will provide a place of understanding and healing. The support group for Fathers Who Have Lost A Child will meet on Saturday, March 4 at Notre Dame Church (359 Central Ave, North Caldwell) between 10 AM and 12 PM.
