1 To Walk Humbly, Patiently and Kindly Among Our Neighbors August 2013 St. Francis of the Tetons Episcopal Church 20 Alta School Rd. Alta, Wyoming Phone: episcopalidaho.org Please join us for our Worship Service at 10AM The Warden s Welcome Last night we had a beautiful and moving service to inter Bob Meier s ashes into the columbarium and it feels so right to have Bob back home at St. Francis. Bob was one of the founding members of St. Francis and during the service Deb talked about Bob s dedication to our parish and everything he contributed to help create our church home. Although many of you may not know the Meier family, they have been strong supporters of St. Francis since the beginning and instrumental in helping to build the Columbarium. Last night s service was also about coming together with this wonderful family and honoring all they have done for us. The Printed Voice of St. Francis of the Tetons Episcopal Church As Deb was talking about Bob during the service, and after the service, when we were all talking about the early days of St. Francis, I thought about all the changes that have taken place within our parish over the years. I m sure that many of you don t know that the congregation used to meet in the basement of the Best Western for worship services, or that we planned to build a church on the land where the Catholic Church is located. Did you also know that the long windows facing the Tetons in the sanctuary used to be frosted glass with curtains? (Those were some long curtains!) Or that Rev. Sandy and others used to scoop coal into the furnace every morning to heat the church? Our parish has changed and evolved over the years and the journey that we are on in this parish will surely produce more changes. One of the big changes we are looking forward to is Deb s ordination into the priesthood. This is the fruition of a lot of work and dedication by Deb over quite a few years. On August 25 th, immediately after worship services, Canon Lucinda will be here to begin a conversation with us about what this will mean for our parish. We will be holding meetings with Canon Lucinda and Bishop Brian monthly, throughout the fall to continue this conversation. All members of the parish are invited and encouraged to attend these meetings, as we value the input of every parish member. You may be seeing other changes in the coming months, as the Worship Space Committee has been given the task to look at our worship space and make recommendations to the Vestry as to how we can change our sanctuary to make it more sacred. The Bishop suggested we look at each element of the sanctuary and how its placement relates to worship, keeping in mind that less is more. As you see changes taking place around the parish, keep in mind that all changes that effect worship, the church building, or how we conduct our services, are well thought out and discussed at length at Committee and Vestry meetings. Changes are not taken lightly; the Vestry takes into account what is best for the parish as a whole and ultimately how worship will be affected by such changes. Change keeps our parish vibrant, relevant and growing. I assure you however that some things in our parish will remain constant; our faith, our fellowship toward each other, our Episcopal tradition, our love of our church home and our dedication to God. God s Peace, Lisa Wagener, Sr. Warden

It is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Eucharistic Minister and Visitor Training Eucharistic Minister/Eucharistic Visitor 101: These are just fancy titles for people who want to be of service to others in our parish. Eucharistic Ministers assist the priest on Sundays when we have communion. You get to help with the Readings, the Prayers of the People and with giving out communion. Eucharistic Visitors are folks who take communion to parish and community members who are unable to get to church. You get to bring the Body of Christ to people in need and to pray with them. If you would like to be of service to others in one or both of these ways, let Deb Adams know. The trainings will be on Saturday, August 24 with Canon Lucinda. Back to School Help Needed Help is needed in our Back to School Program which takes place in late August. Volunteers are needed to help on a Saturday handing out vouchers as well as other miscellaneous small tasks. If you can help please see Lisa Wagener during church or call the church office at

Absent John Paul Trudelle, Jim Rein, Erica Tremblay and Becky Park Opening prayer was held at 5:50 PM. St. Francis Vestry Members Senior Warden Lisa Wagener lisahwagener@gmail.com Junior Warden Jim Rein jwreins2002@yahoo.com Treasurer Beverly Palm bpb@tetonvalley.net Toni Hill John Paul Trudelle Sharon Froberg frogwumin@silverstar.com Nanci Garling garlingnanci@yahoo.com Erica Tremblay tetonbird@gmail.com Becky Park rpark4@silverstar.com Sr. Warden Report Lisa had said that a parishioner had approached her about having a guest speaker at the church; the name of the speaker was David Frackt and he is a Dept. of Defense attorney who has been assigned to represent prisoners at Guantanamo; he would speak on Guantanamo issues of national security vs. ethics. A concern came up among Vestry members that this would suggest that St. Francis was pushing political views. It was decided that Lisa would let the parishioner know that St. Francis would rent the church for the speaker for $25.00 (a reduced rate) but that the church will not be affiliated in sponsoring or running the event. Lisa reminded Vestry members that Canon Lucinda Ashby will be here on August 24 th for Eucharistic Minister and Visitor training. Lisa asked Nancy to check with Deb Adams to see if anyone had expressed interest in attending. Nancy passed around the revised church directory for review; the directory should go into print next week. The Meier family will be interring their father on Tuesday, July 30 th. Deb Adams will be officiating the service. Lisa would like to have an appetizer/dessert reception after the ceremony and she would like volunteers to help, she asked Nancy to put a note in the Announcements. Jr. Warden Report Lisa gave an update on the church grounds; the lawn had been fertilized by Bluebird, they will do a weed and feed 3 times to get the lawn back into shape. Lisa also noted that there is a new dishwasher in the kitchen which was installed by Teddy, there are new paper towel dispensers in the bathrooms which were also installed by Teddy and there are two new fluorescent lights to be installed in the bathroom as well. Bev Palm brought up that she thought we should change the door knob on the yellow bath door so that it can be opened from the outside, Lisa asked Nancy to look into getting a new door knob. Lisa had said that the Boy Scouts were here and had cleaned up the church grounds and the lot next to the fence. Lisa had said that Rod Gust will be spraying the weeds. Treasurer Report Bev reviewed the Church Audit with the Vestry and asked if there were any questions on the report to which none were brought up. Lisa made a motion to accept the 2012 Audit report, Toni seconded the motion, all in favor, motion carries. Bev had asked the Vestry to review a different report that she would like to replace the Transaction Detail by Account; the new report was a General Ledger report. Bev had explained how to read the General Ledger report vs. the Transaction Detail by Account; the Vestry reviewed the expenditures using both reports and decided to keep using the Transaction Detail by Account for their viewing but to include one copy of a General Ledger report at each meeting. The Transaction Detail by Account for May was reviewed, Nanci made a motion to accept the report and Bev seconded the motion, all in favor, motion carries. Bev had explained to the Vestry that she had moved $ from the Columbarium account into the Clergy Development Fund; Bev explained that when she allocated the funds into accounts at the beginning of the year, after we changed our Quickbooks accounts, the money was put in the wrong account; we will see the money in the correct accounts at the next Vestry meeting. Toni had asked why account had a negative balance in it; Bev had asked Nancy to research this. Lisa had asked Nancy to provide a breakdown of Tin Cup budgets and expenses for the next meeting. The minutes for the May Vestry meeting were reviewed; there were no changes to the minutes, Toni made a motion to accept the minutes as presented and Nanci seconded the motion, all in favor, motion carries. Worship Committee Lisa had commented that there were not any notes taken from the last meeting, since Nancy was the only person who had attended the meeting she had given an overview to the Vestry on what was discussed. Christian Education Sharon had said that the Adult Book Club was going great and that they had decided to meet throughout the summer. Stewardship Lisa had said that it was time to think of Stewardship ideas for this year. There will be a Web X meeting on Stewardship coming up soon and if anyone wanted to listen in we could get them the time and day of the meeting. Lisa will ask Jim Rein to head up the Stewardship Committee again. Columbarium Bluebird will be putting in a new walkway before the Meier family internment on July 30 th. As of now we do not have a cost on the new walkway. The engraving for the pavers in the walkway will be done on sight as they are sold, that way the pavers will not have to be removed from the walkway once they are laid. Bev had suggested that someone from the Columbarium Committee come to the next Vestry meeting and instruct the members on how to sell the Columbarium items if they were approached. Other Business The rummage sale date is July 13 th. Lisa asked to start calling it Yard Sale. Vestry discussed whether to have the sale in town again or to remain having it at the church; it was decided that we would talk to the people who put the event on; the Vestry members had expressed that they would like to see it stay at the church. An idea was brought up that we should have a poster and sign inviting people at the Yard Sale to view the Columbarium while at the church. The next meeting was scheduled for July 23rd at 5:30PM. Meeting adjourned. Nancy Parisee
