FRANCIS OF THE TETONS EPISCOPAL CHURCH Voice of the Vestry Just as this May, we say goodbye to the snow in the Teton Valley, we too say goodbye to Easter tide and welcome Pentecost. Pentecost is 50 days after Easter hence the word root pente or 5. Pentecost falls on the tenth day after Ascension Thursday (which itself is 40 days after Easter). In the New Testament, Pentecost was the occasion of the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ, as described in the Acts of the Apostles 2:1 31, and therefore in the Christian liturgical year, it became a feast commemorating this occasion. For this reason, Pentecost is described by some Christians as the "Birthday of the Church. Bishop Brian Thom is coming to visit us on Sunday May 8th. We welcome Bishop Brian s guidance and will be looking forward to his Public Service of Healing. A delicious pot luck Mother s Day fellowship dinner will follow. As he describes it, the Jesus movement is about transforming this world from the nightmare that it is into the dream God intends for all of us. Bishop Curry reminds us that Jesus came to lead the way towards a world where there is justice and grace for all, and where the love of God prevails over all. As we celebrate the Birthday of the Church, we remember how important it is for us to be witnesses for Jesus. This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples when they see the love you have for each other. (John 13:35). We can show our love of Jesus and each other in many different ways. This last Sunday, I was returning from traveling Eucharist when I stopped into Barrels and Bins, still dressed in church attire. I saw some old friends who said, my, my, you are all dressed up. My response was that I just finished a great day at church and was looking forward to going home to bake a lemon meringue pie. I encourage you to share your church experiences with friends and neighbors. I believe when they hear firsthand from you what St. Francis means to you, they will be attracted to that love. Bishop Curry understands that as Episcopalians we are sometimes uneasy about publicly proclaiming the Good News of God in Jesus. We see the message many times in the Bible and yet we hope for a loophole to get out of being witnesses for Jesus. That s why we pray at the end of our service every Sunday for the courage to do just that. One of our Post Communion prayers says it like this: And now Father, send us out to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. The Episcopal branch of the Jesus movement is nothing less than joyous and vigorous proclamation of the love of God in the world. God s peace, Rod

The minutes from the February meeting were approved Sr Warden Report Bank account signature cards As Junior Warden, Clarke will be added as signer to bank accounts Lighting renovation Clarke has spoken to Fall River and Carl Jorden about lighting choices for replacing the florescent lights in the church. This project is on going. Alta 4-H wants to use our dinner plates for an event they are having. Vestry approved this request. Comments- Rod asked that if anyone receives any comments or suggestions from the congregation, to please share them with Rod or in the next Vestry meeting. Easter - An Easter Pot Luck sign-up sheet was passed around and will be shared with the congregation next Sunday. Jr. Warden Report Roof ice dam Clarke cleared the ice dam in the roof valley on the east side of the church. Propane Clarke will contact the various local propane companies about the price of propane. Changing the locks Changing the lock on the front door of the church, as the locksmith is having surgery. Dog policy we re-iterated the dog policy, which some vestry members were not aware of. Dogs are not allowed in the church before, during or after worship, except for the Blessing of the Animals Service. Dogs are also not allowed in the church when food is being served. Treasurers Report A new version of Quickbooks will be purchased, as the current version will no longer by supported by Intuit. Fundraiser Dinner proceeds - Cheryl reported that the net proceeds for the winter fundraiser dinner were $ Alta Solid Waste - Cheryl reported that Alta Solid Waste has billed the church $58.00 for 2016, which is much lower than budgeted ($593.00) and lower than previous years. RAD Garbage Service Garbage service has been switched to RAD Recycling and Garbage, as the church is in their contracted area. Rod and Clarke will still do our recycling, for now. Eat and Meet proceeds Proceeds from each Eat and Meet Dinner will go in petty cash, to help offset the cost of the next dinner. The Treasurer s Report was accepted. Worship Committee Sharon asked if a Tenebrae Service could be added to Holy Week. Rod will bring this request up with Deb and the Worship Committee. Adult Ed Class Carol said that Darryl Reinke is willing to offer an adult ed class on a religious topic, Carol will work with Darryl to set up the time and date. It was decided that it would be called Adult Forum. Columbarium Committee it was requested that the Columbarium Committee report the financial status of the Columbarium to the Vestry. Lisa will call at Columbarium Committee meeting. Pastoral Care we received a heart-felt thank you note from the recipients of a pastoral care request. Carol also said that when Bob has received home Eucharist from the Eucharistic Ministers, that it has been very lovely, beautiful and deeply spiritual. Tin Cup Jim reported that the volunteer hours required to participate have been reduced to 3 volunteer time slots. The volunteer opportunities will be posted on the Community Foundation of Teton Valley website on May 1. Endowment Committee The committee has met and each member has taken on a task, to be reported to the Vestry when completed. The next Vestry meeting will be held on April 13 th, at 5:30. Case in point: The third point of the Scout Law is: A SCOUT IS HELPFUL. The sixth is: A SCOUT IS KIND. Nothing is said about being helpful only to those you deem worthy of help, nor that helping them is only enabling their bad behavior. Nothing is in there limiting those you show kindness to, those who are just like you in all ways, or any way. If you doubt that, look at the Scout Promise. It says...to help other people at all times. It doesn't say to help other people only when you think they deserve it, or to base the amount of help you give on your opinion of them. ALL times. If you were ever a Scout and took that promise, and you support any group, political, religious, civic, whatever, that rationalizes away being helpful and kind to others based on anything about those people really, then you are hypocritically violating the promise you made.
