F R A N C I S O F T H E T E T O N S E P I S C O P A L C H U R C H St. Francis of the Tetons Episcopal Church 20 Alta School Rd. Alta, Wyoming Phone: sftetons@silverstar.com episcopalidaho.org Easter is upon us and brings another season of glorious miracles. The frozen, dormant, fallow ground is slowly warmed back to life by the sun's rays. The bears begin to stir in their dens as sleepy hibernation dreams lift with the smells and sounds of approaching springtime. The welcomed sounds of spring are in the air - birds chirping, newborn calves crying, ice cracking under our feet, heavy snow loads sliding off roofs, rushing water run-offs. What a time of miracles indeed! During this Eastertide, we too may experience a renewed life force that perhaps calls us from our spiritual sleepiness to a gentle, or not so gentle, awakening. The beautiful chant, "Jesus Remember Me" is with me constantly during this time of reflection and re-birth. As we at St. Francis fully live this Easter season, we step into a time of remembrance of Jesus' gift of life eternal given freely to us - to each of us, to all of us. In celebration or sadness or solemnity or reverence we experience this greatest miracle of all. Through Lent, Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil and Easter morning, perhaps you and I will recall our own personal deaths and resurrections. Perhaps we will, with God's help, die to the old and be reborn anew. Resurrection- The reversal of what was thought to be absolute. The turning of midnight into dawn, hatred into love, dying into living anew. If we look more closely into life, we will find that resurrection is more than hope, it is our experience. The return to life from death is something we understand at our innermost depths, something we feel on the surface of our tender skin. We have come back to life, not only when we start to shake off a shroud of sorrow that has bound us, but when we begin to believe in all that is still, endlessly possible. Please join us for our Worship Service & Sunday school at 10AM We give thanks for all those times we have arisen from the depths or simply taken a tiny step toward something new. May we be empowered by extraordinary second chances. And as we enter the world anew, let us turn the tides of despair into endless waves of hope. -Molly Fumia In God s Peace, Carol
2 P A G E 2 Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper St. Francis met once again for our annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake supper on March 4th. Clarke Arick was our leader in the kitchen for the event, along with Clarke helpers included Rod Gust, Becky Park, Patty Sticher, Jim & Ellen Rein, Jim Steele and JP Trudelle. Below Left: Hannah Hoth and Julie Parisee share some girl time while enjoying their meal. Below Center: The kitchen staff pose for a picture. Below Right: Becky Park and her son William, along with a friend, enjoy the fellowship of the evening. When asked what Easter means to our Sunday school children their reply was.. Hannah Hoth, age 6 It means my birthday is coming Tristan Anschutz, age 5 "It is a day when a bunny scatters eggs everywhere with prizes in them." 6 P A G E 6 St. Francis Vestry Members Senior Warden Carol Taylor caroltaylor58@hotmail.com Junior Warden Jim Rein jwreins2002@yahoo.com Toni Hill John Paul Trudelle Sharon Froberg frogwumin@silverstar.com Nanci Garling garlingnanci@yahoo.com Erica Tremblay tetonbird@gmail.com Becky Park rpark4@silverstar.com Clarke Arick patriciasticher@yahoo.com A Voice From the Vestry Approved Vestry Minutes from February 23, 2014 Present Becky Park, Nanci Garling, Erica Tremblay, Carol Taylor, Sharon Froberg, Toni Hill, Jim Rein and Nancy Parisee. Absent John Paul Trudelle and Clarke Arick The minutes were reviewed for the January meeting, there was one correction to be made; Jim made a motion to accept the minutes, as corrected, and Erica seconded the motion, all in favor, motion carries. Sr. Warden Report Carol started the meeting with Old Business to catch her up with what had been discussed at last month s meeting. A proposed definition and meaning of the Sweetheart award was given, it is thought that this award is given out to people with a musical contribution to the church. Carol had asked Jim to follow up with Lisa Wagener on the status of the MOU with the Seventh Day church. The Vestry retreat will be on hold for now. Carol asked that the Vestry read through the book Born of Water, Born of Spirit all at once instead of a chapter a month. Carol reported that meetings with the staff are taking place once a month; job descriptions are being updated. The payroll for employees is now the treasurer s responsibility; the employees will now have their paychecks checks automatically deposited. Questions came up as to why we cancelled the fundraiser, Carol had explained that a number of events occurred that led to its cancellation. Erica was asked where we were with the emergency shelter status; she stated that she would follow up with it this month. Volunteers were called to represent St. Francis at the Eastern Deanery meeting in Idaho Falls on May 3rd; the theme of the meeting will be Parish Disaster & Emergency Preparedness. Erica and Sharon will represent the church at this meeting. There was a request from Deb Adams to cover expenses for a trip to Pocatello to meet with the Commission on Ministry, the request was for $78.14 for books, $65.52 for gas and milage to and from Jerome for a total of $ Jim made a motion to cover the expenses and Toni seconded the motion, all in favor, motion carried. Rev. Cunningham had requested that we cover $75.00 for him to get a room when he comes here to preach, he also asked for $50.00 for meals for a total of $ per Sunday to come here. Jim made a motion to pay Rev. Cunningham $ if the Reverend has to get a hotel and $ if he stays with a parishioner, Nanci seconded the motion, motion carried. Carol noted that there may be a discrepancy with the figures; she will talk to Deb Adams to clarify the amounts. Bruce and Cathy Mason had asked how much money the Boy Scout troop will be receiving this year, the Finance Committee will review this request and compare it to last years to see if adjustments need to be made. Shrove Tuesday was discussed, Carol asked for someone to head up the event, Jim volunteered Clarke Arick, he will contact Clarke to see if he can oversee the supper. Jr. Warden Report The Columbarium door leak was brought up by Jim, he stated that nothing had been done due to the snow, he will call and get an update from the Columbarium Committee. Jim stated that he spoke with Carl Jordan about an that Carl had sent him regarding Fall River rebates for energy conservation. It was decided that the church should do an energy audit with Electrical Wholesalers, who were recommended by Fall River to do the audit. Jim wanted Vestry s permission to get the audit done; he will be working with Ron Lien on this. A motion was made by Nanci to go ahead with the audit and Toni seconded the motion, all in favor, motion carried. Treasurer Report The January Transaction Detail by Account was reviewed, there were no changes noted so Erica made a motion to accept the report and Sharon seconded the motion, all in favor, motion carries. The Profit and Loss Budget vs. Actual was reviewed by the members, Toni asked for clarity as to why the church is paying for the garden maintenance for the Columbarium instead of the Columbarium fund, no answer was given at this time. Toni had said that her daughter Rayma would like to maintain the weeds around the church this year, Carol asked Rayma to get in touch with Jim Rein. The furnace is still not working, Jim will continue to work with Fox Creek, the company that is repairing the furnace, they have already replaced the pump and cylinoid valve. Worship Committee The Vestry reviewed the last Worship Committee minutes, no further discussion took place. Pastoral Care Carol stated that three requests were received; Carol will follow up with the Pastoral Care committee. It was suggested that we give out $20.00 gas cards to those who volunteer to drive parishioners to appointments out of Teton County; Angie Warner is the point person for this ministry. It was decided that the money for these gas cards will come out of Back to Health. Meeting adjourned. Nancy Parisee
