1 J A N U A R Y The Flock Voice of the Vestry THE PRINTED VOICE OF ST. FRANCIS OF THE TETONS It is with great joy that we can announce this year s stewardship drive was a tremendous success. The parishioners at St. Francis have embodied the love and joy of giving. We have a budget proposed for final approval at this month s Vestry meeting. There are some exciting new dedicated funds we are proposing, so that as a congregation we can give to some less fortunate people and communities in ways we have not been able to give in the past. We started this idea last year when Hurricane Matthew struck the gulf coast. We are able to direct money that is assessed to the Diocese and redirect it to the Episcopal Relief and Development, so that St. Francis can make a difference when disaster strikes. We will be able to address issues in such a way that our congregation can be directly involved. St. Francis of the Tetons Episcopal Church 20 Alta School Rd. Alta, Wyoming sftetons@silverstar.comstfr ancis.episcopalidaho.org All Are Welcome for Worship, Sunday School and Fellowship at We also have outreach programs to help the people in our valley that we have been able to fund like: Back to School, Back to Work and Pastoral Care. These programs operate with anonymity because of their very nature, but it should be understood that our combined effort make a great impact in our community. By being a part of St. Francis, you are making a difference locally as well as globally. We have had a phenomenal year of giving in 2016, and the year to come will be even better. We are always looking for new ideas and welcome your input. This year s Calderwood Tree was one such idea that made our Christmas fulfilling while directing our efforts to a local cause. Giving plans are like savings plans. They are sometimes hard to embrace at first, but with some dedication and discipline the rewards start to become overwhelming. St. Francis has that dedication to our fellow man, and it is joyful to worship and serve the church and our community. We are reaching out to the community for a Minister of Music to serve our needs. If you know any qualified individuals, please encourage them to apply. We also have a number of committee positions open. We would love to enlist your time and talent this year so that you might share the joy we receive by serving as your Vestry. We have set a date of Feb. 4th for the annual fundraising dinner. More info will be coming about the dinner shortly. This year we would like to get a strong turnout for a really fun night of song and food. Volunteers should contact any Vestry member to see what you can bring. God s peace, Rod

5 JANUARY 2017 PAGE 5 St. Francis Staff Priest The Rev. Debra Adams sfpriest@silverstar.com Senior Warden Rod Gust rodgust@gmail.com Junior Warden Clarke Arick sfjuniorwarden@silverstar.com Treasurer Cheryl Reinertsen sfttreasurer@silverstar.com Parish Assistant Hope McKenzie sftetons@silverstar.com Parish Sexton Angie Warner sftstaff@silverstar.com Parish Historian Toni Hill Summary Minutes of the Vestry / November 8, 2016 Present: Rod Gust, Monica Hoth, Jim Steele, Lisa Wagener, Sharon Froberg, Carole Taylor and Cheryl Reinertsen. Senior Warden Rod Gust called the meeting to order at 5:30 pm and gave the opening prayer. The minutes of the October 11, 2016 meeting were unanimously approved as presented Senior Warden s Report: Rev. Karen Hunter has asked for information regarding the Meier Fund how it came about, how is has been used, and what we are doing with it now. Lisa will contact her to discuss/describe. Jim Rein has volunteered to be the COR for Boy Scout Troop 185 and will contact the Masons himself. Thank you, Jim! The church calendar Hope prefers a hard copy calendar. Vestry is concerned that a hard copy only limits convenient access to it for parishioners. Monica will work with Hope to create a digital calendar as well. Rod expressed gratitude for the hurricane relief funds, both those received from parishioners and those approved by Vestry, that were sent to the Diocese. Rod replaced the heat tape on the north side of the roof and repaired the electrical connection bringing it up to code. Junior Warden s Report: In Clarke s absence, Rod reported that he had checked the propane level and it s at 60%. He reminded us that 80% is considered full and 20% is considered empty. Fox Creek had repaired the squirrel cage fan fins in the oil fired heating system. It took two weeks to get the parts. When they primed it, they discovered that the oil tank was empty. Rod checked various prices and determined that Hartshorn was the cheapest, so he ordered oil from them. We have no record of the size of the tank, but will discover that when the bill arrives. Rod is also making a dip stick after the delivery so that we can monitor the oil level as there is no gauge. Jim Steele brought greetings from our absent Junior Warden, Clarke Arick. Treasurer s Report: The monthly financial reports were approved unanimously as presented. Cheryl reported on the results of the Stewardship Drive to date. Cheryl reported that a preliminary budget had been developed by the finance committee and sent to the Vestry. Changes will be made as further pledges arrive, and the budget will be approved at December s meeting. Other Business: Thanks for Mary Lou Oslund for the fabulous photos for the directory and the entry bulletin board! The photos were reviewed by Vestry to make sure we hadn t missed anyone before they are posted. The Building Use Policy and Reservation form were reviewed with several suggestions made for its design. Cheryl will continue to work on it and bring it to the December meeting. It was brought to the attention of the Vestry that our Music Director plans to resign. Rod will ask her to submit a letter of resignation with a specific end date. The Vestry hopes she will be available through the end of the calendar year. Rod will also ask her for a copy of the specific and most recent job description she has so that the Vestry can review it prior to advertising for a replacement. Fall Clean-up: Lisa plans to clear the planters and flower pots on Saturday. As the three tall planters are quite heavy, it was suggested that we find some tree tops to put in them for the winter and that we string battery or solar operated lights on them for the holidays. Lisa and Carole will see where we might acquire the tops and lights. It was decided to move the issue of the sanctuary lighting and the repair/replacement of the front steps and handicap ramp to the active status. The Vestry agreed that design help is needed so Cheryl will contact Bruce Hawtin who has worked with the church on designs in the past to see if he is interested/available to assist us. Building Wi-fi: Monica stated that the building does not have good access. There are dead zones in the building, and we re not getting the level of connection we re paying for. She will contact Silverstar to get it straightened out. Committee Reports: Pastoral Care: Carole reported that we are getting requests for assistance which is great. Jim reported on the needs of the Calderwood residents. It was decided that medical needs will be funded by our Back to Health funds from Tin Cup and that the clothing needs will be funded from the specific Calderwood line item. In addition, Carole suggested that our Adopt a Family tree be dedicated to the Calderwood residents this year. The suggestion was enthusiastically received and approved. Jim will get sizes, color preferences, interests/hobbies etc. Adult Education: The book club is reading/discussing The Magic of Awareness and has grown in size to include 6 people. Christian Education: Monica reported that she hasn t been able to identify the best option to replace the old chalkboard. Current plans are to purchase more Legos and to continue with that as the primary creative learning tool. Outreach Eat and Meet: The next scheduled event is December 6 th and will be a soup/chili supper. Monica will contact Becky Park about it. There has been discussion about a permanent sign, but Monica thinks we need a marketing ploy before we invest in that. Eat and Meet, while clever, doesn t seem to attract enough people. Worship: Rod will ask the committee for their Advent schedule specifically when the greening of the church will be done. There being no other business, Carole gave a closing prayer and the meeting adjourned at 7:30 pm. Respectfully submitted, Cheryl Reinertsen
