3 **Deanery Event ** The Deanery coordinates the Cabaret Night at the Community Mission in Niagara Falls once a month. We will be joining with Saint Andrew's on Feb. 24th to serve the meal (which they prepare) and refreshments (which we supply) during the Trivia Game that night. What a fun and easy way to give back to the community. More information to follow. Your Priest Perspective. Amen Book of Common Prayer, pg 214 St. John s is currently taking orders for the Spring Bouquet Sale for Niagara Hospice Each bouquet is $8.00. St. John s keeps $1.00 from each one ordered. You can either keep the bouquets or donate them to a patient or a Veteran. You can specify at the time of ordering. Orders are due in by February 24th. Bouquets will be delivered on Saturday, March 9th. During this liturgical season of Epiphany we are called to notice those places where Jesus is made known to us, to notice times when we see God for who God is. For example, we are called to notice God s presence when we hold the hands of our grandchildren or snuggle close to our loved ones and feel the love and joy. We see God at work in the strange intuition that nudges us to do a specific good deed and then later in the sense of peace that tells us we did exactly the right thing. We see God when God s light shines in the form of comfort for us in dark times, such as fear, depression, or pressure. We see God for who God is when we look at nature and its cycles, the lengthening days, the ebbing and flowing tides, the cold weather yielding to spring. We have had great presenters including child psychologist, Justin Naylor. Most recently our Vicki Jancef did greenery candle arranging with the moms, childcare staff and ladies of the church after the meeting. MOPS invited the ladies of St. John s Church to join their Christmas Cookie Exchange. We had 15 participants. We all enjoyed the busy little ones among us. On November 18th Brian Lonsbery and Wesley Whitmore were baptized here at St. John s. The candidates were presented homemade quilts by Donna Kopeck and Priscilla Moot. Thank you Donna, this was a great idea with presenting new baptized persons with a quilt from St. John s. I want to thank everyone who made donations of items and time to the Christmas bags for the Wilson Food Pantry. They looked great and were greatly appreciated by all. We were able to include dishcloths, dish towels, dish soap, scrubby sponges, SOS pads and pot holders because of your generosity. The pantry is in need of cereal, jams and jellies, juice and cookies. All donations may be left under the back pew and thanks in advance for your donations. Lucy Kraatz MOPS has purchased a new rug for the bottom of the stairs and we will be putting a new door going from the parish hall up into church. This is for safety of the children and stairs. It s their get- away!! As we head into 2019 with our MOPS group, we will be looking at doing an event(s) to raise money to continue providing a safe atmosphere filled with warmth, encouraging words and leaders committed to loving moms like Jesus. We are always in need of additional child care people. If you can volunteer or know anyone that is available the 2nd & 4th Wednesday of the month, please see Priscilla or Jennifer. 5 By Janet Hoffman, Bldgs & Grounds As of January 17, The Dept. of Health came to inspect our Kitchen on December 10. See attached copy of their letter with items that need to be corrected. 2. In January we had a pipe leak in the furnace room, repaired and the leak plugged. In drying out the floor and ceiling areas that were saturated with water we blew out the pilot light for the furnace. Also, got that lit. It was suggested that we have the furnace serviced and some of the connections replaced as they are pitting and rusting badly. 3. We have our usual winter visitors again and have set mousetraps in the kitchen and in the sanctuary. We caught the one in the sanctuary but not in kitchen thus far. We also need to add some in the basement as their traces have been found. 4. We are still waiting on Thilk Electric to do his job. They have ordered the parts and they should be in soon. 5. Requested another company come and service the stove (calibrate the oven) and we have not heard from them as to when they will be out.

Hoffman, Sr. Warden Ashes To Go March 6, 2019 We will be doing Ashes to Go again this year during the morning rush hour at the corner. Please urge your friends to stop by to receive their ashes. This is a great way to introduce them to our church. Ash Wednesday service will be held at St. John s at Noon. ST. ANDREW S FISH FRY STARTS FRIDAY, MARCH 1st
