3 From the Desk of Father Ed: Dear Parishioners, Today we celebrate the Third Sunday of Easter. This weekend we hear in our Gospel from St. John another account of Jesus Resurrection. Two of his disciples were leaving Jerusalem and heading into a country town called Emmaus. It appeared that they left in disappointment believing that Jesus was defeated at the Cross. While on their way Jesus appeared to them yet they did not recognize Him. He explained the Scriptures to them and pointed out where it was written that he had to suffer and die. Their hearts were burning inside as Jesus opened the Scriptures for them. The disciples invited Jesus to stay with them and While he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight. It was in the Eucharistic Meal that they recognized Jesus. They returned at once to Jerusalem to the eleven Apostles. In our Gospel this weekend we have both essential elements of the Holy Mass, that is, the Table of the Word and the Table of the Eucharist. Jesus used the Holy Scriptures to teach his disciples and then made himself known in the Breaking of the Bread, the Eucharist. Their hearts burned with love as they listened to the Word of God and theirs eyes opened as they partook of the Eucharist. As we journey through this Easter Season of Joy our hearts should be burning with love as the word of God is proclaimed to us. And the eyes of our soul opened, that is, with the eyes of faith we should recognize that Jesus is truly, really, substantially present in the Eucharist. Congratulations to our Confirmation Students who received the Sacrament of Confirmation...we are very proud of you! We have two important events coming up in May. Dulibber will be ordained a Transitional Deacon on Saturday, May 13th, at St. Peter The Apostle Church in Parsippany at 10:30 am, and we will have a party for him after the 5:00 pm Mass. The Bishop will be here at our parish for the Diocesan Crowning of Mary on Sunday, May 14th, Mother s Day at 3:00 pm. Please make an effort to be present for our Bishop who has given our parish the privilege of hosting this day to honor our Blessed Mother.
