Parish Healing Retreat Friday, September 7th Sunday, September 9th The Sacred Heart Retreat Center, Newton NJ Why Go On A Retreat? Retreats are a time to get away from the busyness of our lives. A Retreat separates us from the things of the world so that we can seek after the things of Heaven. A Retreat helps us to experience God s presence in our lives and to hear his voice. Going away on a Retreat is a gift that God gives to us so that we can find that inner peace and joy that only the Lord can give to us. On Retreat we experience God s Healing love for us. The Retreat will include Mass Celebrated on Saturday and Sunday with a Healing Service on Saturday evening. Father Ed will be giving the Retreat Talks and celebrating the Masses and Healing Service. 3 Religious Education Online Registration ONLINE REGISTRATION for the Our Lady Queen of Peace Religious Education Program is now open. All returning students, as well as new students, must complete an ONLINE REGISTRATION FORM, no student is automatically reregistered. The ONLINE REGISTRATION FORM can now be accessed from our website at under the Religious Education tab. Kindly provide the information requested. Payment will be required in order to complete the online registration. If you do not wish to pay online you may register by visiting the office on Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. Sunday, September 16th 12pm to 3pm Church Grounds and Pavilion Join us for a fun-filled afternoon! Adult Faith Formation & Rite of Christian Initiation: (RCIA) If you would like to become a Catholic or have not received all of your Sacraments such as First Holy Communion or Confirmation this program is for you! Praise & Worship Music by: Dan Ferrari Beloved Saint Visits Our Lady Queen of Peace On Sunday, October 14, 2018 Veneration from 8 AM to 1 PM The Franciscan Friars from Padua, Italy, invite you to join them in welcoming Saint Anthony of Padua to Our Lady Queen of Peace in Branchville. St. Anthony will be visiting us in the form of two precious and first class relics from the Pontifical Basilica in Padua, Italy. The relics will be accompanied by Fr. Mario Conte, a Franciscan Friar from Padua, Italy, where the Saint is buried. According to Fr Mario Conte, who is Editor of the Messenger of St Anthony, There is nothing superstitious about relics. The real meaning of a relic is love they are a link of love between the person who venerates and the saint. Pope Benedict Emeritus said of relics By inviting us to venerate the mortal remains of the martyrs and saints, the Church does not forget that, in the end, these are indeed just human bones, but they are bones that belonged to individuals touched by the living power of God. The relics of the saints are traces of that invisible but real presence which sheds light upon the shadows of the world and reveals the Kingdom of Heaven in our midst. Prayer petitions with holy cards will be distributed by Friar Mario and volunteers to allow parishioners to write their prayer petition to the saint. The writing of a prayer petition is a worldwide tradition when venerating a relic of a saint. Father Conte will bring the petitions back to the Basilica in Padua and place them at the tomb of Saint Anthony. The tour officially ends back at the Tomb of Saint Anthony where the Friars will gather to pray for the saint s intercession upon our intentions and petitions. 4 From the Desk of Father Ed: Dear Parishioners, The heart of the summer season is upon us with its invitation to slow down, relax, enjoy the warm weather, and try to get away for a while from the business of our lives. This weekend we hear in our Gospel, Jesus invitation to His Apostles to Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while. In last Sunday s Gospel He sent out the twelve on a training mission to preach, heal, and drive out demons. We heard at the end of the Gospel, they drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them. This Sunday in Mark s Gospel they return from their training session and were Gathered together with Jesus and reported all they had done and taught. The Apostles must have been very excited because of the success of their mission. Especially, because Jesus did not allow them to take any provisions; they were forced to rely solely on the providence of God. It must have been a great joy for the twelve to once again be reunited with Jesus and to share with Him the experience of participating in His ministry and recognizing the power and authority that was given them. The twelve Apostles were probably exhausted by the experience, which is why Jesus told them to come away with Him to a deserted place to rest. Jesus gave these men a share in His power and authority yet they needed to slow down and rest for a while; they needed to find a deserted place with Him. As the Apostles and Jesus were planning to find a secluded place to rest the People were coming and going in great numbers, and they had no opportunity even to eat. Jesus heart was moved with pity for them, they were like sheep without a shepherd; and He began to teach them many things. As we journey with our Lord through the warm summer days we too are reminded of the necessity to slow down and find time to rest. Often when we slow down we discover how close the Lord is to us and that He delights to be with us as we rest. He has given us Sunday as His day, a day that we honor God by our rest. Jesus invited His twelve closest friends to get away with Him and rest. He invites us to slow down and find some quiet time in silence and solitude to be with Him and rest, and one day witness His promise of eternal rest with Him. Parish Life: Progress continues on our Parish Pavilion Kitchen renovation project. Our new stainless steel hood and fire suppression system have been completely installed. The new gas stove, fryers, and flat top stove should be operational shortly. We look forward to using our newly restored kitchen for our next parish event. Our Parish Evangelization Team will be organizing and leading the Rosary. 5 Knights of Columbus Food Booth August 3rd 12th During the week of August 3rd through 12th, the Don Bosco Council, Knights of Columbus, will sponsor a Food Booth at the 2018 Sussex County Fair. This is an annual event to raise funds for various Charities in Sussex County. Anyone interested in helping at the Knights Food Booth, please contact John Holzli at or at jholzli@embarqmail.com. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old and be available to work at least a 6 hour shift. All parishioners are asked to visit and support the Knights of Columbus Food Booth at the Fair. Come and enjoy great food and support our Knights! Food Pantry Items needed for the food pantry are the following: pasta, spaghetti sauce, boxed potatoes, canned meats, frozen food (drop off by appointment), canned vegetables, coffee, breakfast items, snacks, shampoo, deodorant and razors Our food pantry now serves over 140 local families Thank you for your continued support and generosity. The hours for the Food Pantry are Mondays 12:00 pm 2:00 pm. We are closed on Holidays and for bad weather. Sacraments of the Church: Baptism: Infant Baptisms (Private & Communal) are celebrated on Saturdays at 11:30 AM & Sundays at 12:30 PM. An instruction class on Baptism will be provided in advance. Please call in advance to make an appointment and to ensure that the Church s requirements especially for Godparents are satisfied. Eucharist: If you are seriously ill or homebound and would like to receive Holy Communion please contact Father Ed. Adult Confirmation: Please call the office and ask about our religious education program for adults. Reconciliation: The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available Saturday 3:45pm-4:45pm, after weekday Masses 8:30am, during Adoration Monday evening 7:30pm-8:30pm and Friday morning 8:30am-9:30am, and anytime by appointment. Anointing of the Sick: Anyone who wishes to receive this healing sacrament, the Anointing of the Sick, should contact Father Ed. Marriage: Couples contemplating marriage are asked to call the office for an appointment to discuss the Marriage Preparation Program. Arrangements should normally be made one year in advance and before any wedding dates are finalized.
