3 From the Desk of Father Ed: Dear Parishioners, This weekend the Church celebrates the fourth Sunday in the holy Season of Lent. Once again we hear from the Gospel of St. John as Jesus heals the man born blind. As the Gospel progresses we hear of not only the regaining of the man s physical sight but more importantly that the eyes of his soul are gradually opened and he comes to faith in Jesus. The man born blind regained his sight, believed in Jesus, and worshiped Him. At the very beginning of John s Gospel Jesus invited his disciples to Come and See where He was staying. It is one of John s themes in the Gospel, that is, seeing equates with coming to faith in Jesus. Jesus said, I came into this world for judgement, so that those who do not see might see, and those who do see might become blind. This weekend our parish begins our Lenten Mission. It is a wonderful opportunity for us to Come and See, that is, to deepen our faith during this holy season of Lent. Our Lord gives us these forty days to help us with an outpouring of his grace. He wants to assist us in the areas of our lives that we struggle with sin; especially the sins that we can t seem to master. The Lenten Mission is a time of grace for our parish as we come together to pray and to take in the many graces that our Lord want to give us. The Lenten Parish Mission will take place this Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm. Father David Gunter, a Marian Priest, and author will be giving the mission. Fr. David will be offering the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Monday through Wednesday at 6:30 pm and the Rosary will begin at 7:00 pm. Please come and join us for this special event and take in the many graces that will prepare us for the Paschal Mysteries, Jesus Passion, Death, and Resurrection. Finger frenzy and laughing ensues. Naturally frustrated at the impossibility of the task, they are handed a third rope. A timed race begins again and ropes are twisted into braids with ease. Now they may tie the knot! The references to marriage become clear. God is the central piece around which strong marriages are braided. Without Him, they quickly fall apart. From the beginning, God called the first man and first woman into communion with each other. As the creator of marriage, God certainly does not will it to fail! He needs couples to witness to His love in the world, a love strong and faithful to the end. The task can seem as challenging as braiding two ropes, which is why we must remember the third. We can remember to beg God to throw us that rope and save us from the things that divide! Then, gently He reminds us of His deep love for us, and shows us our dignity in His eyes. And we set about the work of re-braiding. He teaches us about the sacrifices necessary to weave our wills into His own. Giving us the grace to offer new gifts of love that we would have never come up with on our own, we taste sweet joy as reward for the offering. This joy is a foretaste of the eternal marriage in heaven where God and all people will be one. Cindy Costello April 23rd, 2017 Gifts Into Flame Ministry ENDOW STUDY GROUP: Divine Mercy Sunday is a very special Sunday when the Divine Floodgates from Heaven are wide-opened and Jesus offers us the total forgiveness of all sins and punishment to any soul who goes to Confession and receives Him in Holy Communion on that day Divine Mercy Sunday will be celebrated at all Masses this weekend.
