Don t forget to set your clocks forward 1 hour on March 10, 2019 at 2 a.m. EPARCHY LENTEN REGULATIONS The Most Reverend Bishop Gregory Mansour has issued the following Lenten guidelines for the Maronites of the United States: + + All Maronites who are physically capable are to abstain from meat on Ash Monday (March 4 & all Fridays of Lent.) + + Ash Monday & the Great Friday of the Crucifixion are also days of fasting. Fasting in the Maronite Church involves eating and drinking nothing at all (except water and medicine) form midnight until noon. The rest of the day, normal meals can be taken but without meat. + + All Maronites who are physically capable are to fast on these two days. YEARLY CONTRIBUTIONS If you need a statement of your yearly donations to the church for tax purposes, please contact the office at and we will be happy to send one to you. Offertory envelopes are now located in the lobby of the church. If there is not a packet there for your family please let the office know Merciful Father, hear our prayer and console us. As we renew our faith in Your Son, whom You raised from the dead, strengthen our hope that all our departed brothers and sisters will share in His resurrection, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. 4 SUNDAY OF THE RIGHTEOUS & JUST 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 Vigilance Brothers and Sisters: Concerning the times and the seasons, you do not need to have anything written to you. For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. When they say, There is peace and security, then sudden destruction will come upon them, as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and there will be no escape! But you, beloved, are not in darkness, for that day to surprise you like a thief; for you are all children of light and children of the day; we are not of the night or of darkness. So then let us not fall asleep as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober; for those who sleep sleep at night, and those who are drunk get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, and put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has destined us not for wrath but for obtaining salvation through our Lord, Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live with him. Therefore encourage one another and build up each other, as indeed you are doing. Praise be to God always! Luke 16:19-31 The Parable - Rich Man and Lazarus - =The Lord Jesus says: There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who longed to satisfy his hunger with what fell from the rich man s table; even the dogs would come and lick his sores. The poor man died and was carried away by the angels to be with Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried. In Hades, where he was being tormented, he looked up and saw Abraham far away with Lazarus by his side. He called out, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in agony in these flames. But Abraham said, Child, remember that during your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in agony. Besides all this, between you and us a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who might want to pass from her to you cannot do so, and no one can cross from there to us. He said, Then, father, I beg you to send him to my father s house - for I have five brothers - that he may warn them, so that they will not also come into this place of torment. Abraham replied, They have Moses and the prophets; they should listen to them. He said, No, father Abraham; but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent, He said to him, If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced even if someone rises from the dead. 5 St. Maron Feast Day Luncheon + THANK YOU + A special thank you to Charles & Rania JeBailey for sponsoring the St. Maron Feast Day Luncheon. The proceeds from the St. Maron Luncheon this past weekend (after expenses) was $2,723. Thank you to all who participated and enjoyed the delicious food provided by Pio Pio Restaurant. Thank you also to all who donated to this event. It was a great celebration with good food and good friends. Parish News + St. Jude s Family Religious Group - The goal of the group is to create a sense of community by getting parents and children involved in church s religious and social activities. An Arabic learning course also available.
