FROM THE DEACON S DESK Q. How long does the Epiphany season last? A. That actually depends on the date Easter is celebrated for a given year.

Easter does not fall on a fixed date in the Gregorian calendar, or the Julian calendar, which is still used by many eastern orthodox churches.

Orthodox liturgical calendars. In 325 AD the Council of Nicaea established that Easter would be held on the first Sunday after the first full moon occurring on or after the vernal equinox.

2 FROM THE DEACON S DESK Q. How long does the Epiphany season last? A. That actually depends on the date Easter is celebrated for a given year. Unlike Christmas (Dec 25) and Epiphany (Jan 6), Easter does not occur on the same date each year. The March equinox coincides with Easter Sunday and holidays that are related to it. Easter does not fall on a fixed date in the Gregorian calendar, or the Julian calendar, which is still used by many eastern orthodox churches. The Catholic Churche(s) use the Gregorian calendar to determine Easter while the Eastern Orthodox Churches utilize the Julian calendar; thus the difference in determining Easter between Catholic and Orthodox liturgical calendars. In 325 AD the Council of Nicaea established that Easter would be held on the first Sunday after the first full moon occurring on or after the vernal equinox. From that point forward, the Easter date depended on the ecclesiastical approximation of March 21 for the vernal equinox. Easter is delayed by 1 week if the full moon is on Sunday, which decreases the chances of it falling on the same day as the Jewish Passover. According to the Gregorian calendar, Easter falls on a Sunday between March 22 and April 25 from 1753 to So let's return to the original question of how long is the season of the Epiphany. Based on the above, Easter falls on April 21. Working in reverse order, let us use this year (2019) as an example. But now that faith has come, we are no longer subject to a disciplinarian, for in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith.

There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.

John 3:1-16 Nicodemus The Apostle writes: Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews.

Jesus answered him, Very truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above. Nicodemus said to him, How can anyone be born after having grown old?

What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be astonished that I said to you, You must be born from above.

There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham s offspring, heirs according to the promise. Praise be to God always! If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. This is the truth. St. Charbel Family Prayer Group St. Jude Church is forming a prayer group under the name of St Charbel Family Prayer Group. The Group s goal is to imitate St. Charbel s spirituality.
