2 COMMEMORATION OF MARTYRS STS. EUGENIOS, MA- KARIOS, VALERIOS, CANDITOS AND AKYOUGHAS The quick spreading of Christianity especially on the territory of the Roman Empire since the 3rd century started to worry the kings. Royal charters were issued ordering the Christians to adopt the heathen religion, otherwise they should be persecuted to death. During that period of persecutions any Christians preferred to die than to Betray Jesus Christ. The Church always appreciated the torments of the people for the sake of Christ, their courage and strength of their faith. Among such people are the martyrs Eugenios and Makarios, martyred during the reign of the King Julianos the Betrayer. Martyrs Valerios, Canditos and Akyoughas have been martyred during the reign of the Kings Dioclethianus and Maximianus. Commemorating the martyrs memory, the Church teaches the faithful to remain loyal to Christ even under most severe circumstances. ՍԲ. 3 TODAY S SCRIPTURE READINGS The first reading is from the first Epistle of St. Paul to the Timothy (4:12-5:10) Don t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you. Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers. The second reading is from the Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to John (3:13-21) No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven the Son of Man. Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

No limit on how many you can purchase! This is a wonderful way to honor a special occasion, milestone event, marriage, new baby, in tribute to, in memory of, etc. Each leaf is 2 x 3 and can be engraved with 20 characters on each of four lines. The cost per leaf is $500. (payable to: St. Gregory the Enlightener Armenian Church) For each leaf sold the Parish Council will donate $10 to the ACYOA Juniors. ACOLYTE TRAINING PROGRAM All boys (ages 8 and over) and girls (ages 8-12) who are interested in becoming altar servers are encouraged to speak with Fr. Mesrob. The Acolyte s Training Program is tailored for young boys/girls who would like to learn to participate in the liturgical services of the Armenian Church as altar servers. May God touch His faithful servants with His healing hand, and grant them good health & recovery. Please inform Der Hayr if you have friends or family who are suffering any physical or spiritual distress and are in need of prayer, and he will add them to his prayer list where they will be remembered before the Holy and Immortal Lamb of God during the Eucharist. We all need prayer both to say for others and to be said for us.

6 PARISH PILGRIMAGE TO ST. VARTAN CATHEDRAL Sunday, February 10, 2019 Dear Parishioners, We are excited to announce that our community will be traveling to St. Vartan Cathedral to celebrate the Divine Liturgy on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Consecration of the Cathedral. We encourage you to join us on this special day! Fr. Mesrob Hovsepyan will celebrate the Divine Liturgy. The bus is limited to 54 passengers. We will depart from St. Gregory the Enlightener Church at 9:15AM sharp, rain or shine. The Divine Liturgy starts at 10:30 AM.
