2 Feast of St. Sarkis the Captain, Patron of Love and Youth, his son Martyros and his 14 Soldiers-Companions In the Armenian Church, St. Sarkis the Warrior is known as the "patron saint of youth and love." A movable feast, this year the Feast of St. Sarkis was celebrated on January 31. St. Sarkis is known for his bravery and faith, upholding Christ during his victorious battles. Refusing to worship pagan gods, Sarkis' son Mardiros was killed, and he was tortured and eventually executed. At his execution, Sarkis began to pray and asked the Lord to fulfill all the requests and needs of those who would remember him and his martyrdom. ( ) : TODAY S SCRIPTURE READINGS The Gospel reading is from the Gospel according to John 6:22-38 (p. 130 New Testament Holy Bible in red color) They said to him, What must we do, to be doing the works of God? Jesus answered them, This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent. So they said to him, Then what sign do you do, that we may see and believe you? What work do you perform? Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. Jesus then said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world. They said to him, Sir, give us this bread always. Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.

3 DUAL PILGRIMAGE IN ONE JOURNEY ARMENIA (10 DAYS) AND JERUSALEM (6 DAYS) August 28 th to September 14, 2015 A cordial invitation to join some friends and parishioners from St. Gregory the Enlightener Armenian Church on a pilgrimage to Armenia and the Holy Land for a total of 16 days. This unique pilgrimage, which is being organized by the Rev. Fr. Karekin Kasparian, promises to be an unforgettable experience of cultural enlightenment and spiritual inspiration at an ideal season in both countries. Some have already registered. Karekin at or at kkarekin@gmail.com, or write to 1503 Pondcrest Lane, White Plains, New York ARMENIAN STAMP DEDICATED TO THE CENTENNIAL OF THE GENOCIDE The Armenian stamp is printed from an oil painting created by Dr. Zareh Hovanesian, on a 44x36 canvas. This stamp is specially dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. The painting from which the stamp was made portrays several important symbols in Armenian history. - Tsitsernakaberd monument in Armenia; Mount Ararat; the red drops of blood (signifying the pain, suffering and deaths of millions of Armenians); the Armenian Flag and stone in the back (commemorating and honoring the victims of the Genocide); and the stone Cross at the bottom of the painting. These stamp is regular US $0.49 first class postage stamps and can be used for mailing letters in the United States. Although, the cost of each of the custom stamps is $1.00. It is an emblem, which will create enormous awareness honoring the 1915 Armenian Genocide centennial. Alfred Yeznaian have ordered large quantity of the stamps and is able to provide them for $0.90/each if ordered more than 20 (book of 20 - $18.00).
