2 We often fail to ask the right questions when seeking answers to life s puzzling questions. Question # 1: Why is anyone saved at all? 2

3 I. Because God chose to love and rescue. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. (John 3:16-17) 3

4 I. Because God chose to love and rescue. We love because he first loved us. (1 John 4:19) 4

5 I. Because God chose to love and rescue. For He says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion. So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy. (Romans 9:15-16) 5

6 I. Because God chose to love and rescue. For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:6-8) 6

7 I. Because God chose to love and rescue. Question # 2: Why are people condemned to hell? 7

8 II. Because they choose to sin and reject forgiveness. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. (John 3:18-19 ESV) 8

9 II. Because they choose to sin and reject forgiveness. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23) 9

But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God." (John 3:20-21) 13
