3 Epiphany of the Lord January 6, Today we celebrate the Epiphany, 12 days a er Christmas, referred to as the Twel h night. Today s Gospel focuses on a guiding light, three Magi (learned wise men, Kings, astrologers), a long journey, and special gi s. The Magi did not know the true God of the Jews, yet God revealed to them that the King he promised to the Jews had been born. They brought gold, a gi for a king ; frankincense, a gi for deity; and myrrh, used to anoint the dead. They came as the first gen les to pay homage to the Christ child and then returned home by a different route completely changed. Our hearing God may have been through a radiant experience or from a small flicker in the darkness, or perhaps anywhere in between. It may have been while reading or hearing a specific passage from Scripture, a specific line or quote in a poem or book or prayer, the fantas c, quiet experienced in the heights of mountains or next to the ocean, watching the unfolding of a flower, witnessing the miracle of a baby s birth, listening to a gentle word of encouragement, a lovely smile, or experiencing the quiet presence of another at your side. All God gi s of light to us. And because of those experiences, we were changed to know and love God even more. Our journey of faith may be short and the path clear, or long and strenuous with many obstacles or mild with many ques ons and concerns. Our journey is personal, unique and con nuous and is composed of very quiet, personal mes as well as being in the company of others. I wonder what the three Magi discussed together as they shared what they had seen and now how they would live their lives differently. We do not bring gold, incense or myrrh as gi s to God, but we do bring Him our priceless gi s of faith, love, prayer and presence during joyful, challenging and sorrowful experiences. The same gi s we share with and for one another. How can we gi others with small yet meaningful thoughts or ac ons? Can you recall some me in your life that a meaningful, spiritual gi was given to you? I remember my dear mother daily making the sign of the cross on my forehead and saying May God Bless You and Be With You. How comfor ng that act of love meant to me! May Our Lord s light shine upon all of us so that we may be er, know, love and serve Him. Mona Lukas, Director Ministry of Care

On Epiphany weekend we ask that you please bring your old (but clean) and new coats and sweaters you do not need to the lobby of both churches when you come to Mass. They will be delivered to the needy immediately after Epiphany weekend.
