Pam will be buried at the South Downs Natural Burial Ground at the Sustainability Centre, Droxford, East Meon, GU32 1HR. Pam s family invite people from St. George s to the funeral. Only family and close friends at the burial please. All are welcome to the Brookfield Hotel in Emsworth, where tea and coffee will be available from 12.30pm and lunch from 2pm when the family will have returned. Black need not be worn Pam loved vibrant colours. The family have requested family flowers only, but those who wish can make a donation in her memory to Pancreatic cancer UK. Anniversary of deaths needs to be updated so the file will be on the table at the back of church throughout November for you to sign your name against a loved one that you would like to be remembered. Advent Carol Service in St. George s is on Sunday the 2 nd of December at 6pm. Advent The season of Advent lasts for four Sundays leading up to Christmas. The new Christian year begins on Advent Sunday and the 12 day celebration of Christmastide lasts from the new Christian year begins with the twelve-day celebration of Christmastide, which lasts from Christmas Eve until Epiphany on January 6. (Advent begins on the Sunday that falls between November Advent symbolizes the present situation of the church in these last days (Acts 2:17, Hebrews 1:2), as God s people wait for the return of Christ in glory to consummate his eternal kingdom. The church is in a similar situation to Israel at the end of the Old Testament: in exile, waiting and hoping in prayerful expectation for the coming of the Messiah. Israel looked back to God s past gracious actions on their behalf in leading them out of Egypt in the Exodus, and on this basis, they called for God once again to act for them. In the same way, the church, during Advent, looks back upon Christ s coming in celebration while at the same time looking forward in eager anticipation to the coming of Christ s kingdom when he returns for his people. In this light, the Advent hymn O Come, O Come, Emmanuel perfectly represents the church s cry during the Advent season O come, O come, Emmanuel, And ransom captive Israel, That mourns in lonely exile here Until the Son of God appears. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel While Israel would have sung the song in expectation of Christ s first coming, the church now sings the song in commemoration of that first coming and in expectation of the second coming in the future.

4 Chocolate Stall Lesley Handy and Lisa Toft are running the chocolate stall at the Christmas Bazzar. They would very much appreciate donations of any kinds of chocolate. Horndean Amateur Theatrical Society (HATS) are rounding off their 70th Anniversary year with George Bernard Shaw's classic "Pygmalion". Performances will be from Wednesday 28th November to Saturday 1st December, at 7.30pm in Merchistoun Hall, Horndean. Tickets are 8, and for the first time they can actually be purchased in advance! So don't miss out please see Iain Renfrew or Sonja Barrand for tickets or for more information. Christmas Memorial Tree Service is on Monday the 17 th of December and you are invited to write a loved one s name on a star and hang it on the Christmas tree which will arrive the beginning of December. Each name will be read out at the Memorial Service which will take place at 7pm. You are invited to this service to reflect on loved ones who have passed in quiet and reflective prayer. Supporting the homeless Many of you will know that churches in Portsmouth offered generous hospitality to homeless and vulnerable people last winter, offering food and beds each night for four weeks in January-February We re excited to tell you that this Open Church project is set to expand in The same group of churches will now cater for and host homeless people for eight weeks from January-March The full details are here: You may know people who would like to volunteer with this project because they have a passion to help those in need. Ideally, it is looking for volunteers who can commit being involved regularly for one night a week throughout the project, as the aim is to build up relationships with our guests. If you know such people, please encourage them to attend the training course from 7.30pm-9pm on November 28 at St Jude s, Southsea, so they can find out more. Neil Pugmire Communications adviser. If you have ideas for new stalls and/or can help on the day please let Malcolm Brewer or Rosemary Monk know. Please: Take raffle tickets early & sell to friends and neighbours. Return your cash and stubs before the day if possible. Sign up to supply something for the Christmas Hamper prize. Look out any toiletries or unwanted gifts that can be used on the gift stall. Hunt down any items that could be used for Tombola or raffle prizes. Buy something chocolatey for the Chocolate Tombola. Turn out any jewellery or scarves that you no longer need. Offer to make a cake (or homemade loaf, biscuits etc) for the cake stall. Can you spare any jars of homemade jam, chutney or other preserves? Can you help move tables on Friday Nov 30th at 2pm? Stallholders can move in later in the afternoon if they wish. We shall be opening at 9.30am on December 1 st so stall holders need to be set up the day before. We will finish at 1pm with the raffles and competition prizes. Items can be left in the bin at the bottom of the gallery stairs. Please label them so we know which stall they are for especially the hamper items.
