2 Weekly Financial Statement For St. George s Church This Week Year to Date Income Expenditure Walsingham Pilgrimage Early on Friday morning a group of 30 pilgrims set off for their annual pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham in Norfolk. The pilgrims are from this parish, together with a group from Havant, Leigh Park and Portchester. People have been visiting the Shrine for the last 1000 years following a vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary which was experienced by the lady of the manor - Lady Richeldis. Please pray for the group this morning as they pray for you. St George s Day Gift Day. The PCC has decided to reintroduce a Gift Day in aid of Church funds to mark St George s Day this year. The envelopes are available again today and should be returned by the APCM on 24th April. Please gift aid your donation if you are a tax payer. Thank you. LOOK is a weekly activity sheet for children which follows the Sunday themes and readings. With thanks to Sheilah Hall these will now be available every Sunday morning for our children in Church. You are welcome to take one for a child at home as well. The sheets will be on the tables in the children's corners so that they can be used during the services if necessary. School Holidays As usual during school holidays the Church will be open in the mornings but may be closed from lunchtime onwards. Sunday School begins again on Sunday April 17 th at 9.45am in the Church Hall. All children are welcome to attend, and there s also a toddler s group available. Children and families are always welcome at the Parish Eucharist on Sundays at 10.00am.

3 Mothers Union Lady Day Service St. George s is hosting this service for MU members from both the Portsmouth and Havant Deaneries. It s at 2.00pm tomorrow afternoon and is a Eucharist at which our former Archdeacon will preach - The Ven. Trevor Reader. You don t have to be an MU member to come - all are welcome. The service will be followed by tea in the hall. Baptisms Unusually there s a Baptism taking place next Saturday morning for a family home from Australia for a short time. Next Sunday morning Paul and Trisha Taylor s three grandchildren are being baptised. Please pray for all four children this week: Elsie, Rebecca, Daniel and Matthew. Electoral Roll The 2016 Roll is now available for inspection and is available at the back of Church during services. It isn t left out at other times. Please check that your name is on the Roll and the information given is correct. If your name isn t on the Roll, please complete a form from the book table and hand it to Tony Rice- Oxley. The updated Roll is presented to the congregation at the APCM. Annual Parochial Church Meeting This is the very formal title of our annual meeting and dinner on Sunday April 24 th - the nearest Sunday to St. George s Day. Reports and Finances will be presented and elections held. This year a new Churchwarden needs to be appointed and at least 4 new members are needed for the PCC. This meets about 10 times a year and is where Church policy is made, pastoral issues are discussed, expenditure is agreed and the use of our buildings is approved. Any member of St. George s Church whose name is on the Electoral Roll is able to stand for PCC. Please consider if this is something for you! Nomination forms for PCC are on the book table at the back of Church. Parish Dinner To celebrate our Patronal Festival there ll be the annual dinner on Sunday April 24 th straight after the APCM - about 12.30pm. This year s menu includes soup, cold meats and salad followed by gateaux and coffee. On arrival you ll be offered an aperitif followed by a selection of wines during the meal. 4 Horndean Amateur Theatrical Society (HATS) will be performing Noël Coward's "Hay Fever", from Thursday 14th to Saturday 16th April at Merchistoun Hall in Horndean. The show starts at 7.30pm each night, tickets are 6 and all are welcome. Please see Sonja Barrand or Iain Renfrew for more details. A modern day miracle to report lawyers are providing free legal advice. Yes the legal drop-in clinic is back in the church hall this Thursday, 7th April, between 1.30 and 3.30pm. As thoughts turn to Spring cleaning, isn t it time to check your Will is up to date or take out that injunction against that annoying neighbour? Hurry and get some initial advice from the nice people at Larcomes and Verisona before they realise they are doing it for free. Thursday afternoon in the church hall. Waterlooville Music Festival Lynda Sheffield will be placing an order for Music Festival clothing. If you would like any garments, please give her your order on April 17th. Easter Bonnets Congratulations to the winners of St. George's Easter Bonnet competition held last Sunday. Seth Lewis won the children's section and Andrew Clark was the adult winner. Thanks to Patricia Byrne for organising it. Sylvia Gent has been visited by a local minister at her new home in Buckinghamshire. The Rev. Stephen Walker-Williams from Gold Hill Baptist Church writes: "Greetings from Chalfont St Peter. I thought I would send a quick to say I visited Sylvia Gent this morning and shared communion with her. She spoke with such warmth and love for you all at St George's and gratefully appreciated your card. Waitrose green tokens Chris Gadd has managed to get Waterlooville Music Festival named as one of the recipients of the Waitrose green token scheme for the month of April. For the uninitiated, each time you shop in Waitrose you get a green token. Go to the back of the store and put it in the box marked WMF. We will then get a share of 1000 split with two other causes directly proportionate to the number of green tokens we get. So please ensure you do lots of shopping at Waitrose during the month of April and put your tokens in the right box. If the Rice-Oxleys would only move their shopping from Harrods for a couple of weeks we should get the lot.
