Its purpose was to encourage those who had dri ed from their prac ce of the faith for any number reasons, to consider again re-connec ng with the Church. The idea behind the promo on was simple enough: Of all the mes we want to have a family and a home where we belong, few are as important as Christmas. The Church reminds us that we all have a voca on to evangelize and welcome others who are trying to find or trying to connect their lived experience with a greater purpose. Today s culture never res of telling people that possessions or status or security or escapism will be all they need to know happiness. We who believe in God's power to save us know otherwise. Because we have come to cherish the Gospel and its power to transform our lives--both our joys and sufferings--we naturally want to share that blessing with others. Christmas and the me that leads up to it is filled with graced opportuni- es to awaken us and those around us who are a bit adri to come and know the goodness of the Lord again. While some even in our own families may not respond to the invita on to "Come home for Christmas," it never hurts to ask. At a minimum it might cause them to re-examine why or how they have decided not to celebrate the Sacraments. On another note, thanks again to everyone who responded so posi vely to this year s Advent Giving Tree! I am happy to report that all of the gi s were distributed this past week to the various charitable organiza ons that provide much valuable assistance to individuals and families in need. All of the gi s were delivered this past week to the Wellston Center. Friends from Sts. Peter and Paul ministries came to Holy Infant and picked up all of the gi s for the homeless men. Our friends from St. Martha s Hall who provide shelter for abused women and their children also came by our parish to pick up all of the gi s that were brought to our tree for their special ministry. Gi s were given to St. Francis Xavier College Church on the campus of St. Louis University to assist in their outreach efforts to the homeless. Gi s were given to the Kathy Weinman Center which provides shelter for vic ms of domes c violence. We also distributed gi cards to our local food pantry at our sister parish, St. Wenceslaus, as well as Holy Infant Families in Need and our own St. Vincent De Paul Society who offer food, rent, u li es and transporta on to families who live within our parish boundaries who are in special need. Thanks, again, to all of you who responded so charitably to this special annual project that helps to brighten the holidays for so many families! God s blessings to you and your families!
