Ed Hauf, the brother of Bob and Jodi Hauf of our parish who was with us last weekend and again this weekend! It s fantas c to have Fr. Hauf with us as he visits with his family! I know that I speak in the name of the en re parish in thanking Fr. Hauf for being the presider at several of our liturgies! On another note, while it barely seems possible, it s true Holy Infant School will reconvene on Thursday, August 16th! Where did the summer go?! As we look forward to another academic year, I am grateful to all who help make Holy Infant School and Parish School of Religion (PSR) so vibrant and strong. I m especially grateful to those who support our school financially, par cularly those who contribute to our Tui on Assistance Fund. Your generosity helps to assist families in financial need. Holy Infant Parish is commi ed to maintaining a strong Catholic elementary school, as well as a quality Parish School of Religion program. Few things are as important as the forma on of children and for us who are Catholic, nothing is as vital as making them faithful disciples of Jesus. Of course, what we do in any school se ng is secondary to and suppor ve of what parents are doing in the home. Parents have always been the most important educators of their own children. We in the parish and our school communi es are blessed to be able to assist them in their voca ons. Please pray for all of our students, teachers, catechists, principal, director and staff that this new school year may be a year during which we may all grow in wisdom and grace. God s blessings for a great week! STRENGTHENED BY THE BREAD OF LIFE: Today we resume the Bread of Life discourse from John s Gospel that began two weeks ago. He makes reference to the Jews ancestors who ate manna in the desert. These days we would think primarily of Israel wandering in the desert, but faithful Jews would also have known the story of Elijah that we hear today. Strengthened by food and drink in the desert, the angel of the Lord sends him on his forty-day and forty-night journey (the biblical number for a prepara on me). Like the food given to Elijah in the desert, Jesus tells his listeners that he is bread for the life of the world. It is very important that we not stop listening to Jesus a er his promise of eternal life a marvelous promise, but this reward is not the only reason we feast on the Bread of Life. We also come to the table to be made strong for the journey of mission, that the whole world might have life in the fullness of Christ. 5 S B N! Mr. Joe Bozzi, the Holy Infant School Band Director, is looking forward to another great year for our school band. Educa onal research has shown evidence that students with par cipa on in a band program show improved scores in tests such as the SAT and in many areas such as math, science and reading skills. Mr. Bozzi will be mee ng with parents who would like to enroll their child in beginning band (4th-8th grades) on Wednesday, August 30 at 7pm in the Holy Infant School band room in the Cardinal Dolan hallway. No experience is necessary. Several instruments are owned by the school and are available for use. These include: trombone, bari one, bells, keyboard, trumpet, bass clarinet, drums, tuba and marimba. Tri-County Birthright is in need of volunteers to cover our 3 hour shifts. We are located in Eureka, open from 9:30-3:30 M-Th. Duties consist of answering phone calls and providing support services to clients that come in. We are looking for a volunteer who can show care and compassion to women who find themselves dealing with an untimely pregnancy. We will train you and fully prepare you to work with these women and their families by sharing resources and just being there for them.
