4 Page 4 December 9 Second Sunday of Advent Spiritual Reflection On this Second Sunday of Advent we are introduced to John the Baptist and it is fitting that we hear that he is preaching a Baptism of Repentance. What we are being invited to focus on is a twofold need for Mercy. The first focus is internal, as we examine our conscience and our hearts to see where the mercy of God needs to touch us and purify our intentions and bring us peace. Pope Francis called mercy the bridge that connects God and God s people, opening our hearts to the hope of being loved forever despite our sinfulness. It is the ultimate and supreme act by which God comes to meet us. The second focus of this call to repentance is to look around us and see in what ways our actions might better reflect the mercy that we have received and which so many in our world are so much in need of experiencing. The passage of Isaiah that is quoted in the passage from Luke today ends by proclaiming that all flesh shall see the salvation of God. That is the task that John the Baptist did his part in proclaiming and that is the task that we are being commissioned to spread by word and action. John the Baptist was the voice preparing the way of the Lord in his day and his cry is heard by us this Advent Season of 2018and he is inviting us to also prepare the way of the Lord in our hearts and in our world. We are invited not only make this our task for Advent but also to make this entire year a time to seek and extend the Mercy of our God. A special opportunity for experiencing this Mercy will be offered through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Plan to come to the Reconciliation Service, with the opportunity for individual Confession, this Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Parish. Bro. John Grouping News FAMILY CENTERED RELIGIOUS ED This Sunday is the December Session of our Family Centered Religious Education Program. It begins after the 9:30 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of the Angels. All young people K 8th who are not in Catholic School are expected to be part of this Program. After the 9:30 a.m. Mass the young people will go with their teachers to the classrooms in the Parish House and the parents and guardians will meet in the Lower Room of the Church. TRI-PARISH ADVISORY COUNCIL Each new Grouping has been commissioned by the Diocese to form a new Advisory Council with members from all three Parishes. The purpose of this new Council will be focused on one goal: To build relationships and foster unity among all of the parishes in our grouping. This Advisory Council will assist the Clergy Team in helping to facilitate and bring about the unity of our three parishes as we fulfill the ultimate goal of becoming one new Parish in 2 3 years. There will be four parishioners from each of our three parishes to be chosen as members of the Advisory Council. The present Pastoral Council Members have been invited to declare if they would like to be considered for membership on this new Advisory Council, but membership is open to any registered parishioner of our three parishes. Those who would like to be considered for membership on this Council will be interviewed by members of the Clergy Team and the members will be chosen based on diversity as well as creativity in helping to bring about the one goal of the Council, which is fostering unity. If you would like to be considered for membership on this Advisory Council, you are invited to submit your name to Bro. John by ing him at jharvey@capuchin.com or you can call him at THE LIGHT IS ON FOR YOU This Tuesday, December 11 th, the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered at all the Groupings throughout the Diocese in preparation for Christmas. At our Grouping it was decided at our Liturgy Committee Meeting that a Communal Reconciliation Service will be offered after the 6:30p.m. Mass at Our Lady of the Angel Parish. The thought was to celebrate the Sacrament at Our Lady of the Angels this Advent and rotate the location for Lent and future celebrations. The Service will begin at 7:15p.m. with all three priests of our Clergy Team being available for individual Confession. Plan to take advantage of this opportunity for receiving this Sacrament.

PARISH SHARE CONTRIBUTIONS Each week you can see on the individual Parish pages of our bulletin a listing of both the offertory income as well and the Assessed Amount for Parish Share and the contributions so far collected. As we come toward the end of the calendar year, if you are considering making a donation to our parishes we want to encourage you to make that donation toward Parish Share. Any monies contributed toward Parish Share helps us meet our Assessment and also those contributions are not taxable and will not appear in next year s Assessment. In other words those contributions designated as Parish Share benefit our parish in two ways they help us reach our Assessment and they are not taxed. SICK OR HOMEBOUND We want to make sure that all the Sick and the Homebound, who are not able to come to church, will have the Sacraments offered to them at home. If you or some parishioner you know is not able to come to the church at this time, please call the parish office so that we can get their name, address and phone number and can arrange for them to receive Holy Communion. One of the Clergy Team would like to visit them and we also want to arrange for one of the Ministers of Communion to visit them each week if that is desired. HELP WANTED YOUTH MINISTRY Do you have a heart for the teens in our parish and our community? Are you interested in learning more about an opportunity to serve our parish by helping with the Parish Youth Group? We would be overjoyed if you would prayerfully consider this request.
