Have we ever imagined Jesus so deeply moved with emotion and engulfed with pity for us? We often are sheep without a shepherd who are lured by the emptiness of worldly attractions and superficial desires. We become lost. God, in the depth of His being, is deeply moved by our pain, loneliness, and heartache. God does not judge or condemn. He loves and is mercy itself. He knows firsthand the pain that comes with being lost and alone and desires to teach us about His merciful love. Do we want to be taught? Listen to God's word and be open to God's presence in the Eucharist. NEXT WEEKEND St. Charles is pleased to welcome Fr. Junesh Vakapadath Xavier, C.P. who will be in our parish to participate in our Annual Missionary Cooperation Plan. Father will present the needs of the Passionist Missions of Holy Cross Province. The Passionists, founded in 1720, are working worldwide, in 53 countries including India, Africa, Korea, Japan, Philippines, West Indies as well as in Alabama. Please be generous in your mission offering and keep the Passionists and the people they serve in your prayers. Thank you. 3 The 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time Summer is flying by faster than anyone expected. We are beginning to plan for the upcoming year. We will be holding the tuition costs the same this year as they were last year. We are also looking for a few good men and women to share their faith with our students. I am continually asked by parents how to keep their children interested in the faith. The answer is simple. SHOW your child that the faith is important to you. A very concrete way is take part of your day and teach the faith. No experience is necessary; the material is extremely easy to share. Please consider helping our Church bring Jesus into the lives of our young people by being a catechist. R.C.I.A. We are extending an invitation for those who wish to become members of Christ s Church. If you know anyone who is interested in becoming Catholic or even mildly interested in our Church, please invite them to call the office. SERVERS We are currently experiencing a shortage of servers for the Mass. We are asking the parents of our youth, 4 th grade or older, to ask their child to volunteer to help fulfill this role. This ministry is vital and a necessary ministry of and for the Church. Please contact the office if your child might be interested in helping. SUNDAY SCRIPTURE St. Charles has been awarded a grant from the Diocese through the Harvest of Thanks, Springtime of Hope Capital Champaign. With this grant we have purchased several Scripture Study programs for the parish that includes: the Gospel of John and the Johannine Letters, the Book of Acts, and the Book of Revelation. If anyone is interested in joining the Scripture Study, please notify the office or Deacon Jeff at jbeals@dio.org. No times have been determined so include your preference and we will accommodate the majority of people. But we find a Good Shepherd in Jesus. He is more than mere leader. He is also provider and protector, teacher and guide. Where do I see evidence of good shepherding today? What guidance do I need? To whom will I turn? Whom will I trust? 4
