This is a wonderful opportunity to experience the Lenten call to holiness! HOLY WEEK COLLECTIONS On Good Friday, our collection will be used to benefit the work of the Church in the Holy Land, as they care for the poor and pilgrims. At Easter Vigil as well as Easter morning, in addition to our regular weekly collection envelope, you will find one labeled Seminarians. These monies will be used to help our diocese educate and form future priests. Please be generous. Stewardship of Treasure We have 385 households in our Parish Family contributing: Envelopes $9, Loose EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer) (Needed weekly) $6, CPN Catholic Home Missions Catholic Relief Services Easter Flowers Holy Land Maintain St. Charles Rent Seminarians Summer Celebration - Quilt Total $10, Time Period: Jul 1, Apr 6, 2019 Year-to-Date Collected $306, Year-to-Date Expenses $309, Deficit/Surplus for Year ($2,983.02) HOLY THURSDAY Adoration of the Reserved Eucharist will take place from the end of Mass until Midnight at the Newman Center. Everyone is invited to spend an hour in prayer during those times. We are like the disciples in the Garden of whom Jesus asks, Could you not keep watch with me for one hour? A minimum of (3) people are needed for each hour, so please plan to watch and pray with our Lord. COME PRAY WITH US! The High School youth group will give a dramatic presentation of the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday, April 19 at 12:00 pm. All are welcome. THE BLESSING OF THE BASKETS Everyone is invited to be a part of this special service in which the food we will be eating on Easter will be blessed on Holy Saturday (April 20) at 8:30 am. Many cultures cherish this tradition as a very important part of their holiday celebration. All are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity of grace. Let us gather for morning prayer as we open our lives to the blessings received there and yet to come. 2

3 Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord Most parents are aware that we will not have 1 st Eucharist for our 2 nd grade this year. This is because our Bishop has decided to change the order of the Sacraments of Initiation to a more ancient and original process. So that everyone can have a better understanding, we will be trying to answer some of the more common questions. If anyone has questions, please do not hesitate to contact Deacon Jeff. How can a young child know everything about the faith? Religious education or catechesis is a life-long process. Adults should regularly study our faith, read the Scriptures, participate in the sacraments, and practice charity. Children and youth from kindergarten through high school are expected to participate in processes of faith formation. With this in mind, Confirmation preparation is simply an explanation of the sacrament itself in the context of an active family faith life and parish catechesis. This is similar to what took place for First Penance/Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. THERE WILL BE NO CLASSES NEXT WEEK (Wednesday 4/17 or Sunday 4/21) IN CELEBRATION OF EASTER. The Catechists and staff of St. Charles wish the families and all of our students a most Blessed Easter. THE CHARLESTON FOOD PANTRY collection was last weekend. If you forgot your donation of Macaroni and Cheese, you may bring it to the church office any time. Monetary donations are also welcome. Upcoming items are: May Cereal June Hearty Soups July 2nd Collection DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY Each year, the Sunday after Easter is designated Divine Mercy Sunday. On this day (April 28) a special prayer ("chaplet") is offered, asking God to extend his mercy on all humanity. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us in church on April 28, at 2:00 pm as we sing this chaplet. There will also be an opportunity for the sacrament of reconciliation. SUNDAY SCRIPTURE QUESTIONS TO PONDER Waving branches and standing at the Cross: We are pulled today toward two extremes: The utter joy of welcoming the true King in procession and the extreme grieving under the Cross. But we know the end of this story. The King is not dead! How can I clear my schedule so I can celebrate all the rites of the Paschal Three Days? How will I embrace the elect in these final days before Easter Baptism? With so many mercy work options, this week I will? Calendar of Events 4/14 Rel. Ed.
