As we gather to reaffirm our faith in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist, we are reminded that we are also the Body of Christ. The mission of the Gospel calls us to be Christ for others. There is so much brokenness and pain in our world. Many people are lost and feeling lonely, marginalized and oppressed, victimized and abused. Every time we receive the Body (and Blood) of Christ, we are asked to become what we eat. Are we willing to step aside from our preoccupations and concerns so that we can be Christ for others? Liturgical Publications Inc. SUMMER CELEBRATION 2018 Next Saturday, June 9, is our Summer Celebration! Join us after the 5:00 pm Mass and enjoy an evening of good food, fellowship, and fun! Enjoy a pork chop dinner prepared by the Knights of Columbus, a baker s auction, and a basket raffle. BASKET RAFFLE Tickets will be on sale after the 8:30 am Mass on June 3, and during our Summer Celebration on June 9. BAKER S AUCTION Calling All Bakers! Would you like to be part of the annual Summer Celebration Baker s Auction? THE 2018 QUILT will be raffled at the Summer Celebration on June 9. Tickets will be available after weekend Masses and at the Celebration. All monies from ticket sales and donations are given to St Charles for the needs of the church and charitable activities. Sales from the monthly Handicraft Table fund the costs associated with making the quilt. Your support of this ministry is sincerely appreciated. PLANT SALE! Stop by Moriarty Hall after 8:30 Mass this Sunday, June 3, to select some flowering sun and shade loving perennial plants from the garden of Lucy Campanis. Your donation will assist the St. Vincent de Paul Society in their work with those in need. 2

3 The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ Join the parade! Why do we have a procession for Corpus Christi? Parents, this is a good time to talk to your child about the importance of the Church s greatest Sacrament Eucharist. We believe the Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith. It parallels the celebration on Holy Thursday in commemoration of the institution of this sacrament. When the Eucharist is carried through the streets in solemn procession, the Christian people give public witness of their faith and devotion toward the sacrament of the Eucharist. R.C.I.A. We are beginning our recruitment for those who are interested about or wish to become members of Christ s Church. If you know anyone who is interested in becoming Catholic or even mildly interested in our Church, please invite them to call the office. SAINTS ALIVE! St. Charles will be hosting a Vacation Bible School program this summer for students Pre K through 6 th grade. From 9:00 11:00 am each morning, July 9 th through the 12 th, the students will have the opportunity to learn more about the Saints. Mark your calendars now. You won t want to miss it! For more information, visit our website: SUNDAY SCRIPTURE QUESTIONS TO PONDER Making more connections: We harken back to Holy Thursday and that first supper we now call Mass and Eucharist. That Last Supper of wining and dining with the Lord Jesus spoke four verbs: took, blessed, broke, gave. At every Sunday since then, down to this day, we still take bread and wine, we still bless them, we still break Body and pour Blood, we still give Communion. And we give our lives to mercy works; we do our part to bring on the reign and kingdom of God. How will my sharing Communion change my life this week? How will my eating and drinking Communion strengthen my efforts to be merciful? How will my dining at the Table of the Lord enrich the world? THE 44TH ANNUAL DAY OF PRAYER FOR LIFE will be held Wednesday, June 27th, at St. Francis Church in Teutopolis. Opening Mass will be at 8:00 am Mass, followed by Eucharistic Exposition and Prayer throughout the day. Monsignor Stuart Swetland will be the honored guest presider for the 7:30 pm closing Mass. During the day, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed, and everyone is encouraged to stop in and pray. Members of the Charleston Catholic Community are scheduled to pray from 5:00-6:00 pm. Let us ask for His mercy for all the injustices against human life. THE ANNUAL FAMILY CAMP Retreat and Renewal Days, which serves people with disabilities and their family/friends, is scheduled for September 15 and 16 at Lake Williamson Christian Center in Carlinville, IL. Participants share in many activities including swimming, square dancing, crafts, prayer and song. Eucharist is celebrated on Sunday. Registration is due by August 1.
