2 KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS MEMBERSHIP DRIVE OCTOBER 5TH & 6TH The Knights of Columbus Msgr. Basche Council 4505 at Cathedral is holding a membership drive. Current members have collectively achieved an impressive list of charitable projects that would be pleasing to our founder, Fr. Michael McGivney. As a member of our council, you will strengthen your faith and become a better Catholic, husband, and/or father. In addition you will form friendships with fellow Knights that will last a lifetime. Completed Cathedral Projects The K of C have completed many projects here at Cathedral There is more to be done in the future, if you have carpenter, plumbing, electrical skills, or typical home maintenance skills, why not volunteer your services to help beautify and refresh some of the parish buildings? ADDITIONAL HANDICAP SEATING Please be aware that additional handicap seating have been added to the front center pews to allow those requiring wheelchairs to sit next to their loved ones. The next Diocesan 150 th Jubilee Mass will be celebrated for Young Adults & Youth Ministers on October 14th at 6 pm here at Cathedral, followed by a special reception. MASS INTENTIONS: In recent years, our parish has not been able to accept as many Mass intentions as in earlier years. However, there are other options for you to remember your deceased loved ones through a Mass intention. Many retired priests in our diocese, as well as priests in mission areas, would be happy to pray for your intention at Masses they celebrate. Relevant Radio invites you to join in the Ember Days devotion over the next 12 months "to fast and pray for healing of the victims and purification of the Church in light of the scandal of sex abuse." Rev. Francis J. Hoffman, Father Rocky, Executive Director at Relevant Radio, has asked all Relevant Radio associates and board members to consider making acts of prayer and penance on each Ember Day. "The entire Relevant Radio family is invited to fast, abstain from meat, and make a Holy Hour in front of the Blessed Sacrament on the Ember Days, which coincide with the changing of the seasons," said Father Rocky. Ember Days for the next 12 months fall on: September 19, 21 and 22, 2018 December 19, 21 and 22, 2018 March 13, 15 and 16, 2019 June 12, 14 and 15, 2019 Ember Days are the Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday following Ash Wednesday, Pentecost, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, and the Feast of St. Lucy. These dates correspond with the changing of the seasons in the calendar year and are traditionally days of fasting and abstinence. "Prayer is augmented by fasting, and Holy Hours in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament will win God's grace for the conversion of sinners," said Father Rocky. When Our Lady appeared to Adele Brise in 1859, she said, "I am the Queen of Heaven who prays for the conversion of sinners, and I ask you to do the same." BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY St. Francis Xavier Cathedral has a Bereavement Ministry program available to provide support and comfort to parishioners who are grieving the death of a loved one. Contact Kathy at if you would like help from this ministry. Join other members of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral to peacefully pray outside of Planned Parenthood in Ashwaubenon. ROSARY COAST TO COAST Join members of St. John s and Cathedral on Sunday October 7th here at Cathedral as we participate in the Global Rosary Coast to Coast within a Holy Hour. Doors will open at 2:30 pm. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at 2:55 pm. Rosary will begin promptly at 3 pm followed by the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Readings & Meditations also included. Benediction at 3:55pm. On October 7th, Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, the United States through Rosary Coast to Coast will join with our International brothers and sisters to pray for our respective nations. Americans across the country are invited to pray the Rosary Coast to Coast wherever they can gather at 4 pm Eastern, 3 pm Central, 2 pm Mountain, 1 pm Pacific. The reasoning behind these times will be to support all time zones in full participation of events, aside from Sunday Masses. Indeed, the Heart of the Nation will be Immersed in the Hour Of Mercy.

5 GOSPEL MEDITATION "Whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it." This verse is part of a beautiful reflection on childlike faith. We're reminded of the innocence of children, how eager they are to experience life and how quick they are to trust. Rarely do we hear it with the story that immediately proceeds it. The Pharisees question Jesus on the lawfulness of divorce! Hardly the sort of thorny moral conversation one typically has in front of children. Yet here we are. Jesus' response goes further back then the Mosaic law. "From the beginning, God made them male and female... the two shall become one flesh... what God has joined together, no human being must separate." Jesus cites a particular set of passages from Genesis 1 and 2, before the Fall in Genesis 3. Adam and Eve possessed original innocence. How eager they were to encounter one another and to explore the garden! How immediate their initial trust in God. We no longer live in Eden. As we age in our fallen world, our childlike trust is wounded and betrayed. We become hardened to the beauties of life. We're quick to find a way around difficult moments. In brief, things become complicated as we lose our innocence. The teachings of Christ and the Church on sexuality become more challenging or more objectionable. Jesus recognizes this in today's Gospel. His invitation is not to compromise with our broken reality. It is a return to beauty, to the fullness of life as it was meant to be. We can affirm our trust in God. We can view life with gratitude. We can experience healing of our lost innocence. This is possible today -- now! -- by grace. Indeed, "the kingdom of God belongs to such as these." ANNUAL PARISH MEETING St. Francis Xavier Cathedral will hold it's Annual Parish Meeting On Tuesday, October 16th at 6 pm in the BWC. Please pick up a copy of the Annual Report for preview. Reports can be found at the Greeters desk. Bring your copy with you to the meeting. HELP NEEDED! We need your help cleaning the Sanctuary on the first Tuesday of every month. (approximately 1 hour commitment). We are also looking for Greeters to cover Fridays noon - 2 pm and 2-4 pm. Please call the office if you are able to assist in either of these ministries.
