2 CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE To date thirteen (13) of the eighteen (18) projects originally projected for the Cathedral renovation through the Capital Campaign have been completed. These 13 projects represent $1.5 million of the total $2.3 million forecasted. Five (5) projects remain. Four (4), the mural restoration, floor replacement, pew refinishing, and the pipe organ rebuild will be completed during the fall outage starting September 5 th until December 1 st. The fifth project, the Sacred Heart Altar restoration, is scheduled for completion this June/July. An update of the details on what will occur during the outage will be provided in a bulletin update in August. In the meantime, you can see a sample of the pew color and cushion as well as a sample of the new floor in the BWC hall immediately to your right as you enter. There will be some work occurring this summer in preparation for the outage. First, all effort is being made to limit any disruption in the Cathedral through the summer. However, there are some things that must occur to ensure we can complete all the projects during the outage. It is a tight schedule. This summer you will see the following happening in the Cathedral all being part of the Capital Campaign Projects. The crack in the wall below the Rose Window in the choir loft (has been there many years) has already been repaired. The main organ console and many large pipes will be removed from the Church starting June 6 th so the choir loft will be off limits starting that day. The console is being sent out for rebuilding to the Wicks Organ Company in Highland, Illinois. It will be re-installed in November. The small organ in front of the church will be used as a replacement until the outage. The Bishop Krautbauer tomb will be cleaned and the lettering redone in August. This is in anticipation of glass being installed over the tomb during the outage to level it with the new floor. There will be a new ceiling installed in the Monroe Street entrance. Also, the piano in the choir loft will be moved into the BWC. Again, thank you so much for all your patience and understanding during this work. ~The Tech Committee CATHOLIC HOLY FAMILY SOCIETY The CHFS is pleased to announce that Dignity of Life Committee at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral Parish in Green Bay, WI has been selected to receive a Church Grant Award in the amount of $3,000. Parishioner, Theresa Hansen, who has been a member of CHFS for over 18 years, nominated her parish for the Grant to be used to purchase food to be prepared for the homeless at the New Community Shelter. Her goal is to be able to provide meals to more families then they are currently serving. Catholic Holy Family Society is a fraternal benefit organization providing life insurance to Catholics and their families. Fraternal benefit societies operate with a blend of business and volunteerism. We also have a strong commitment to Catholic education. For more information about CHFS, please call (800) PARISH SEMINARIN UPDATE Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Praised be Jesus Christ! Thank you for another year of prayers and support. I write this less than two weeks away from diaconate ordination. This past year has been very good. As you may recall, I spent last summer in Kansas City doing a hospital chaplaincy internship. I was blessed with some very good and prayerful encounters with patients, as well as a great supervisor and colleagues. While in Kansas City, I got to know a group of religious called the Little Sisters and Brothers of the Lamb. My encounters with them inspired me greatly. This spring I had the chance through seminary to make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land for nine weeks. This was a real blessing. Some of my favorite sites included the Church of the Nativity, where Jesus was born; the Basilica of the Annunciation and the town of Nazareth, home of the Holy Family; the Galilee countryside and the Church of the Multiplication of Loaves and Fishes; and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, which contains Calvary and Jesus' tomb. I grew closer to my classmates during this pilgrimage, as well. I will be ordained a deacon on Sunday, May 21st, at 3pm, here at the Cathedral. I am looking forward to this, and all of you are welcome to attend. This summer I will be a deacon at St. Mary's of the Lake Parish in Lakewood, St. Ambrose Parish in Wabeno, and the 'station' churches at Silver Cliff and Crooked Lake, with pastor Fr. Philip Dinh-Van-Thiep. I'm looking forward to this experience. Please keep me in your prayers, and I will do the same. I look forward to seeing you around the parish! In Him, ~Kyle RITE OF ORDINATION With praise and thanksgiving to Almighty God the Church of Green Bay joyfully invites you to attend the Rite of Ordination to the Order of Deacon for José López Vargas and Kyle Thomas Sladek (Cathedral Parish Seminarian) On Sunday, May 21st at 3 pm Here at Cathedral.
