3 A NOTE FROM FATHER GIROTTI My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Two exciting projects are taking place at our parish this Fall. They are the result of years of preparation and many generous donations. Our new confessionals have been installed and have already been put to use! Over the past two years, 28 gifts both large and small have made these two new confessionals possible. Included with these gifts are the estates of Fr. Tony Dolski and Fr. Paul Schumacher and three other estates. Antique jewelry was sold by a parishioner to raise money for this project and the remaining funds from the Advancing the Mission campaign were used. In addition, gifts on behalf of spouses, memorials, and in thanksgiving to God for His gift of forgiveness all made this project possible. I am also pleased to announce that because of the additional generosity of five families from our parish, our church will finally be able to purchase new kneelers. Yes, the days of CRASHING kneelers will finally come to a close. Bruised shins, toes, and eardrums will be a thing of the past. These new kneelers will be half the weight, twice as soft, and provide at least eight more inches of leg room. They will also have internal springs so that crashes will be eliminated. The kneelers will be installed in late October. As our entire parish embraces stewardship and the giving of our time, talent, and treasure, let us remember and be thankful for those who have made these two projects a reality. Fr. John Girotti Have you registered on our parish website to make your intentional sacrificial donations online? It is incredibly easy, convenient and saves money for you and the parish. Many of you are getting onboard with this new way of sacrificial giving. You can set up your donations to be automatically taken right out of an account or charged to your credit card as often as you like. That way you know you are supporting your parish on a regular basis. Try it! LOVE LIFE October is Respect Life month. Bring diapers of all sizes, new and gently used baby clothes, blankets, teethers, rattles, baby bath, lotion, towels, washcloths and bottles to the bassinet outside the BWC. Thank you for your continued support of this important ministry for babies in need. YEAR OF FAITH SHRINE OF OUR LADY OF GOOD HELP October Anniversary Celebrations at the Shrine Tuesday, October 8th at 7:30 pm there will be a Candlelight Rosary Procession to commemorate the night the Chapel was spared from the devastating Peshtigo Fire. Please bring a candle or lantern to carry in procession. This will be followed by all night adoration of the Blessed Sacrament with a Rosary Procession on the grounds each hour on the hour throughout the night. Closing Benediction will be at 9 am on Wednesday, October 9, followed by Mass at 10 am to celebrate the anniversary of the apparition of our Blessed Mother to Adele Brise in1859. 4 From Our Pastor My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Fourth Commandment: Honor your Father and your Mother. Often when we think about this Commandment, we associate it with being a child and not talking back to our parents. However, it is much more far reaching than it initially appears! Let s learn more about it. God has willed that, after Him, we should honor our parents to whom we owe life itself and who have handed on to us the very knowledge of God. Flowing from this commandment, we also see that mutual respect is necessary for all members of a family. Parents must respect their children, individuals must strive to love and honor their grandparents and other relatives, and all of us are called to love and honor our neighbor as ourselves. Finally, from this commandment flows the respect we all owe to legitimate authority whether this be exercised by the Church or by the Government. Marriage is divinely intended for the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of children. The union of one man and one woman in marriage and their openness to the gift of new life constitutes the basic Christian understanding of family life. For Believers, the family is a community of persons which reflects the very nature of God Himself in the Holy Trinity. And the family is rightly called the Domestic Church because it is primarily here where the values of life and faith are passed on. While it is true that families come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, we must never forget that a family is knit together by chaste love and mutual understanding. A family is not to be based on lust or for mutual gain or exploitation. Because of selfishness and numerous other factors today, the family is seriously threatened. Because the family is the basic building block of society, its breakdown has had a profoundly negative effect on our culture. Governments and social leaders must work to strengthen marriages and protect families. The Bible is filled with passages that speak of the duties of family members towards each other. Examples are found in Proverbs 6:20 and 13:1 as well as in Sirach 7:27 and 3:2-6. Respect for parents derives from the fact that they were the ones who cooperated with God to create new life - our life. Obedience towards parents is reflected in patience and respect for their rules and wishes. Sadly, sometimes parents give poor examples to their children and are negligent in their duties towards their own. In this tragic situation, the children must persevere in prayer while respecting their parents even though they may not be able to be completely obedient to their unjust demands. Children have a serious responsibility to care for their aging parents. In the twilight of life when there can be much loneliness, fear, and pain, these burdens are often made lighter by children and relatives who care. Brothers, sisters, and other relatives have natural ties to each other and must show respect towards each other. Although disagreements often happen, those who are knit together by family ties must strive to live together in harmony. All people are joined together into the human family. Love of neighbor is part of being a Christian and fulfilling God s commandment of love. Finally, we all belong to a larger family which is civil society and the Church. In each case, there are certain laws and patterns of behavior that are expected for the well ordering of life. The exercise of authority in each case must always be aimed at service of the other and not towards exploitation. Respect must always be shown to legitimate authority. As we have seen, there are many subjects that are able to be covered by one Commandment! Love of our parents, relatives, superiors, and country is often not as easy as it seems, but the respect that we owe remains necessary. The reason behind this is that in respecting our parents, relatives, and superiors, we are really demonstrating love and respect for God who is the source of all authority and who governs the universe with His justice and love. May God Bless You. Fr. Girotti September Prayer Intentions of Pope Francis: Apostleship of Prayer People in Despair. That those feeling crushed by life and wish to end it may sense the nearness of God's love. World Mission Day. That the celebration of World Mission Day may help all Christians realize that we are not only receivers but proclaimers of God's word.
