3 St. Rosalie s Bulletin Page 3 From the Pastor s Desk Dear Brothers and Sisters: Take courage; get up, Jesus is calling you. He threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus. Jesus said to him in reply, What do you want me to do for you? The blind man replied to him, Master, I want to see. Jesus told him, Go your way; your faith has saved you. Immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way. MARK 10:49-52 In today s gospel we hear those around Jesus saying to the blind man: Take courage, get up Jesus is calling you! And then we hear that beautiful interchange between Jesus and the blind man, including Jesus asking what he wants and the man responding: Master I want to see. Do we have enough courage to follow Jesus when he is calling us? Then can we take the next step to tell our Lord that we want to see? The blind man received his physical sight. But, it appears this man already saw with the eyes of faith. Oh, if we but were not afraid to use our eyes of faith! Although this gospel speaks of a great miracle, perhaps I might look at the initial call to the blind Man Take courage get up Jesus is calling you. In my life at this time, I need to take courage for the next part of my life journey and our journey together as members of Saint Rosalie s parish. As you know, I will begin a new assignment next month as the Vicar of Clergy Personnel in the Diocese of Rockville Centre. We as priests do take promises, one of which is obedience. I am so happy to have been your priest and pastor since June of I have loved being your pastor for the last 8½ years. It has been a great journey. I thank God for his goodness to me! I believe we have seen the parish grow in the number of parishioners, and in ministries in so many ways. Whether we are young or older, English or Spanish speaking, we have come together in our Church! I have been a mentor to my brother priests; in all bringing four newly-ordained priests to our parish and a number of seminarians as well. I have learned a lot from my brother priests and deacons and from our staff and all of you. When I look back I have some very joyous occasions which we have celebrated together. The beautiful celebrations of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, each and every day, and at Christmas and Easter! The first few years of the Saint Rosalie s Feast with a great celebration and procession and the social gathering. The celebration of the Parish Gala joining all parishioners together in celebrating the summer, the parish and each other! The celebration of our Families was big part of those great memories as reflected in the 9:30 Mass. I loved inviting the children around the altar and teaching the faith and letting the children teach all of us. That has been a tremendous growth for our parish families. One great moment for our parish has been the reaching out to those grieving through our Consolation and Bereavement ministries, which has helped the healing of many. On October 14, I saw many great things come together. Over the years we have attended Pancake breakfasts etc., but last weekend it came together for us. It was great to see our Family Communion breakfast. We had invited our parish families to join with OLH families bringing some 250 strong to talk about Faith and Family. We celebrated in our renovated Community Center which has been a great meeting place for our parish. That was something we can all be proud of. As I go forward I will keep these memories in my heart. I will say thank you to all by praying for all of you: my brother priests and deacons, our parish staff, Sister Kathy and all of you, our wonderful parishioners! I will always remember all of you in my thoughts and prayers and I ask you to say a prayer for me. May God continue to bless St Rosalie s Parish, each and every one of you always! We will celebrate this Holy Day Vigil Mass at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31. Masses will be on Thursday, November 1 at 8 a.m. and 12 noon, and in East Quogue on Thursday, November 1, at 7:30 p.m. All Souls Mass We will be celebrating a special Memorial Mass for the deceased who were buried from St. Rosalie s this past year at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 2. They will be mentioned by name at the Prayer of the Faithful. Immediately after the Mass will be a short Music Ministry Concert in honor of those that have died this past year. 8 Page 8 St. Rosalie s Bulletin Religious Formation Congratulations to 56 of our teen parishioners and their families, on being Confirmed on Saturday, October 20. The celebrant was Bishop Andrzej Zglejszewski, who introduces himself as Bishop Anjay to those who do not speak Polish. What a blessing to have so many newly inspired, fully initiated, Catholics in the world! Thank you to the parents, sponsors, catechists, priests, deacons and all who were instrumental in guiding and praying for these teens in preparing to receive this sacrament. May our newly confirmed feel and use the gifts of the Holy Spirit forever, so the world will benefit from the fruits of these gifts! This season of Saints and souls gives us time to reflect on those who need our prayers to receive God mercy and forgiveness as they pass from this life to the next. 9 St. Rosalie s Bulletin Page 9 Our Lady of the Hamptons School The prep 7 class, led by their teacher Valerie Hanley, and Technology coordinator Erin Stadelman, spent a full day at Adventureland with other diocesan middle schoolers studying the physics and technology of amusement park rides. The annual Bucks for Books raffle has gotten an early start, with the drawing of ten prizes ranging from five hundred to ten thousand dollars scheduled for February 2, Parish and community members are asked to call the school at to secure their tickets. While enrollment for this year is now closed, parents are urged to consider registration for the school year. Materials are available for pick-up or mail. Interviews for next year will begin in late November. Please call the office at In addition to the creation of the new playground area/parking relocation, there are several upgrades that need to be done in technology and program development in the year ahead. One of the goals of the school, looking forward, is the creation of a tuition assistance program to attempt to provide an OLH education for families who may require financial consideration.
